This was the meet n greet Cookie had with her new family. They loved her and it was a perfect match! They will be picking her up once they return and I’m beyond excited for her new journey! A dog who was dumped by her family, bounced around in 5 different homes, and she will finally be in her forever home. ♡ Gina

Shadow, Mocha, and Latte – While Pregnant, Thrown Out of a Moving Car –
916/16 – Last month I received a call for help from a woman in the Jackson, MI area. She had been driving her car on a major highway and saw, what looked to be a kitten, thrown out of the car’s window. She immediately pulled over and was able to get the cat who did not seem to be much older than a kitten. The cat had an indentation around the neck where a collar had obviously been. The cat had obviously been a pet at one time because she immediately began to snuggle and purr. Five weeks later, this beautiful cat, now named Shadow (because she is grey and follows the rescuer every where she goes), had 3 kittens. Unfortunately, one kitten died because Shadow’s milk had dried up before the rescuers realized it. The rescuers then immediately started to bottle feed the rest. As you can see, the kittens (Latte and Mocha) are now doing great. 4 Paws 1 Heart was happy to pay for Shadow’s and the kittens’ spay/neuter, vaccinations, and testing. They are now ready to be adopted. Anyone interested in adopting these beauties should contact Jean at: goldberry@herrickmi.us Remember that everyone is in the Jackson, MI area.
Baby and Saint – Flea and Tick Infested; Baby Suffering with a Broken Leg
9/15/16 – Meet Baby and Saint. They were found flea and tick infested and Baby had something wrong with her leg. 4 Paws 1 Heart made arrangements for them to be seen the same day and it was determined that Baby’s leg was broken. Both kittens were treated, vaccinated, and tested and Baby’s leg was set. She goes in for her follow up visit in a couple of weeks.
Please continue to pray for all of these poor animals who have been dumped or allowed to be born on the streets. Can you imagine the number who would have died had it not been for the caring people who don’t turn their backs, the generous people who donate hard earned dollars, and 4 Paws 1 Heart. ~ diana
Prince – Injured in a Fight with Fellow Rescues
9/14/16 – When our friend, Megan, from Friends of Scooby Rescue, contacted us about this little guy, we knew we had to help. Here is his story and also let this be a lesson to all of our friends. You can never be too careful when children and animals are involved. ~ diana
“Prince is a senior Shih Tzu who has been passed around his whole life. He is currently in a long term foster home due to his age and medical needs (arthritis and blind). The other night everything was going on as usual; Dogs were being rotated; food and meds were being given; and kids were running in and out the doors. As careful as we try to be, sometimes accidents happen. One of the kids let Prince into an area of the house where he shouldn’t have been at the time and he was attacked by another foster dog. Because adults were in the area, the fight was broken up rather quickly. Prince was still injured but only required to be cleaned up, antibiotics, pain meds and a rabies booster. He had 2 puncture wounds on his throat and a superficial scratch on the top of his neck. Thanks to 4 Paws 1 Heart he is resting comfortably at home. Thanks again”

Lily, Buster, Freckles, Sampson, and Sasha – Rescued with Another Sibling Who Passed Away
9/13/16 – We were contacted by a rescue friend about 6 kittens who needed our help. Unfortunately, one of their siblings had to be taken to an emergency hospital where she had to be humanely euthanized. All of them were horribly flea infested and obviously neglected. The positive news is that the rest of the family is doing well and are on their way to get their vaccinations, deworming, and spaying/neutering. This is Lily, Buster (talking), Freckles, Sampson, and Sasha (Tabby). All will be available for adoption through our friends at A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue. ~ diana
Louie – Rescued from a High-Kill Shelter
9/12/16 – Louie was rescued by Heavenly Paws of MI from an overcrowded, high-kill shelter. He had a broken leg, which appeared to have been set; however, Wilson’s medical testing disclosed that the leg was not set properly. He was also suffering from a life threatening infection in his leg. These conditions required that he endure a leg amputation to save his life. As was hoped, Louie recovered well from his surgery, and is now living a very happy and healthy life. 4 Paws 1 Heart was very happy to be able to assist our friends at Heavenly Paws with Louie’s medical needs. ~ diana

Cookie Finds the Best Family Ever
I am delighted to report that Cookie found her forever home with a very lovely couple. They have tons of time to spoil her, a 2-acre property on the lake, and a condo in Florida where she will travel with them. Cookie was dumped in a school parking lot several months ago. She had back and neck trauma and she was emaciated. I’ve fostered her since and she is a ball of love. In 3 weeks her new mom and dad will make it official. Prayers do work! Gina
Mocha Latte – Adopts a Family
9/7/16 – It was August 1 when we were first contacted about this sweet girl who found her way to the porch of a very caring family 3 weeks prior. The family had been providing food and water when one day, Mocha Latte walked through the door when the dog was let out. Everyone fell in love with her and decided that they would provide her a forever home. 4 Paws 1 Heart agreed to pay for her spay and vaccinations only to find out she was pregnant. Everything was going well until an abscess was found on Mocha’s chin along with some other cuts around her neck. Once again, we came through and had Mocha seen by the doctor. Well, the other day, I received this e-mail from Mocha Latte’s mom:
“Mocha did great through her labor and delivery. Her labor started at 5 p.m. and her last baby was born at 8:08 p.m. Mama stayed with her babies all night until she got up to eat at 7 am the next morning. Before her first kitten was born she did push out a sac that had just a blob and placenta in it. I’ve never seen that with a cat before during delivery. I am not sure if it was an undeveloped kitten that never even formed or what but before I could figure it out she ate it. (I wanted to throw up) She wouldn’t let me leave her side. Every time I tried to get up she would stop pushing and try to follow me so I had to strap in for the ride. She did beautifully. Her motherly instincts kicked in from the moment she went into labor. My Fur-daughter is a trooper, and my 2 new grand-fur-babies are strong criers, but healthy so far and doing good. I will keep you updated as things move along. Thank you again for helping us with this beautiful little girl. She is the 3rd child I have always wanted, but unfortunately my body couldn’t give me. I am a happy worried new mommie again, and now grandmommie. – Brandy””

Dexter – Paralyzed By a Pellet Gunshot – Dies
9/5/16 – RIP Sweet Dexter – It was last Thursday when I was contacted about another kitten showing up at the home of Shelly Grabow’s (Faith’s mom) sister. The kitten was dragging his back legs just as Faith had when she was rescued in the same area. I learned that someone has been shooting cats/kittens in the area which is in Richmond, MI. For whatever reason, I did not know that Faith had actually been shot and still had a .22 bullet in her body.
We immediately authorized the little guy to be seen by a local veterinarian and it was confirmed that Dexter had been shot and that there was a pellet still in his body near his spinal cord. At the time, Dexter appeared to be healthy with the exception of his paralyzed legs and the doctor thought there still could be hope for him to walk some day. I contacted Dr. Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Therapy for Pets to let her know that Dexter might be coming in to see her in the immediate future. At the same time, I learned there were two other cats and a kitten in the area. The obvious concern was that these innocent creatures would meet the same fate as Dexter and Faith. I contacted our friend, Rachel Gerstner, and she immediately jumped into action to help trap the rest of the cats.
Thankfully, the remaining cats were eventually trapped and everyone will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The adults will be moved to a barn location and the kitten will be homed.
Then, yesterday, I received a call from Shelly saying she was worried about Dexter. The two closest veterinary clinics/emergency hospitals had 5-6 hour waiting periods; arrangements were made to have Dexter go to Wilson’s in Romeo. The rest of this sad story is told by Faith and her mom.
It is heartbreaking and outrageous that alleged humans can be so cruel as to shoot innocent animals for their “enjoyment”. I only pray that karma comes sooner than later. ~ diana
