Hector the Cat being treated for URI

Hector has been hospitalized with a very bad upper respiratory infection for three days now. He is slowly making improvement but he isn’t out of the woods yet 🙁 Paws crossed for a full recovery on Hector while we provide everything he needs! Thank you to the staff for caring for him around the clock at Harper Woods and the Urgent Care! ~ Gina

One Less Homeless Kitty

ONE LESS HOMELESS KITTY – Cheri Doss Martin, a facebook friend and active advocate of the homeless, contacted us about a stray cat. She had been contacted by a family who had been feeding the stray for two years and now noticed that the cat’s tail appeared to be ‘hanging’. Cheri contacted us and we wanted to help. The bottom line is that Dr. Rita Taylor ended up amputating the tail at minimal cost and took care of neutering Clark as well as removing all of the maggots who had taken over his body. 4 Paws 1 Heart provided medical dollars for vaccines and testing. Here is his new mom’s e-mail to us and his photo. ~ diana

Trooper’s Recovery From Torture by Teenagers

Trooper Before

Trooper After

We recently shared a story about Trooper, the cat who was rescued while he was being tortured by teenagers. At the time the rescuers were able to snatch Trooper the inhumans had already cut him with a razor blade on his face and paws and h

ad a rubber band around his arm — they were trying to remove his claws. 4 Paws 1 Heart is very happy to help Michigan Cat Rescue with some medical dollars and will add them to our list of rescue friends. As so many of our rescue friends do, Colleen and Nancy of MCR risked their own lives and welfare to save this poor defenseless creature. God only knows what torture these inhumans had in store for him. I hope these teenagers meet their karma before they torture other living creatures.  Trooper continues to need everyone’s prayers in that he has contracted a virus.  He was obviously very susceptible to other issues because of his trauma and living on the streets.  We’ll keep him in our prayers. ~ diana

One Less Homeless Kitten

ONE LESS HOMELESS KITTEN: Robyn was referred to 4 Paws 1 Heart by a couple of our rescue friends. Here’s her e-mail to us:

“I live in Oak Park and I have 2 elderly cats of my own, one of which is sick. I’ve been taking care of a stray

cat that has been living in my backyard for a few months. He’s approximately 1 yr old. He has a cough every so often, and I’ve caught him pooping a few times and I see some blood in it. Today, he is limping badly. Something is wrong with his back right leg. Santa Flux got him neutered and his rabies vaccine about a month or so ago. They ear tipped him since he lives outdoors. He was never feral, just fearful. I have an appointment at Hoover tomorrow at 1:15, but I am struggling on how to pay for this. He could have heartworm, I don’t know. He could have a broken leg. He could have worms or intestional parasites. Is there any way you can help in the costs? I also don’t have a foster for him. I feel very alone and don’t know what to do.
Sincerely,
Robyn”

We contacted Robyn and offered to help. She was able to capture Jack and bring him in to be examined. The good news is that his leg is not broken — just seems to have hurt his paw; he is heart worm negative, and seems to have caught a virus. He is being kept over night for continued meds. Robyn planned to foster Jack until she could find him a home. We are happy to report that Robyn may have an adopter and this should be a happy ever after story. ~ diana

Trooper’s Abuse and Brave Rescue

This is the reality of what rescues face every day. I’m not sure where we’ve gone wrong but we all need to wake up and make a difference. These are teenagers who did this to this poor defenseless creature. Do you really think they will stop here. Research has proven “NO”; they will progress to humans. Anyone so evil as to do this to a living creature needs serious help. Where and Who are these kids parents?? We as a community need to get involved and take a stand. ~ diana

Posting by the Michigan Cat Rescue:

“Trooper is a victim of cruelty. We just rescued him. His head was covered in blood and he had a rubber band tied tightly around his arm. A group of teenagers where torturing him. He was cut with razor blades on his face and throughout his paws. His paw pads are cut too. The teenagers tried to rip his claws out. His paws and pads are infected and his ears are infected too. Trooper is a victim of cruelty. We just rescued him. His head was covered in blood and he had a rubber band tied tightly around his arm. “

R.I.P Sweet Kitten

R.I.P. sweet kitten… This 8-week-old baby kitten was brought into the hospital in critical condition. The family had just adopted him and his sister who were doing well up until two nights ago. Due to financial constraints 4 Paws 1 Heart allowed the family to sign over the kitten, so we could attempt to save him or alleviate his suffering. After diagnostics and an exam, it was determined that the kitten was in kidney failure. The doctor believes this was a congenital problem that couldn’t have been prevented or predicted. In his short little life his family loved him so much and they were just devastated. ~ Gina

Kissex Female Domestic Shorthair Gray and White Cat

Kissex is a Female, Domestic Shorthair, Gray and White, Very Sweet, 8 year old, female Spayed cat who was taken to the Macomb Humane Society (not to be confused with the Michigan Humane Society –no relationship) as an owner surrender. The family was homeless and couldn’t keep her.. She said they told her that the cat would be euthanized because of her age. The owner was put in touch with Michigan Animal Adoption Network who agreed to put her in their adoption program. 4 Paws 1 Heart got Kissix up to date on all her required annual vaccines and she is now with the rescue group; If interested in adoption please contact Chris 248-545-5055 at the Michigan Animal Adoption Network. She is in charge of the adoption process. ~ gina

Jack Sparrow

Update August 10, 2012
These are the Kittens that I rescued, and they would not be alive today if it was not for 4 Paws 1  Heart, I am going to make a long story as short as I can I came home one day and my room mate tells me that Pretty Kitty brought her babies one
by one in her mouth to our porch there had been 4 🙁 , I take one look and realize that they are sick, horrible eye infections. lets be honest, I am  broke I cannot afford pets especially sick ones…. so i start calling shelters and doing what i can to help them, I facebooked Diana Wojo and she lead me to 4 Paws 1 Heart, i first brought in 4 kittens, when we arrived one of the kittens eyes had burst, and he had to be put down, 4 Paws 1 Heart gave me medicine to help treat the other 3, well they were not getting better and when we went back thats when another one had to be put down because his third eye lids had adhered to his eyes 🙁 trust me this was hard to deal with, and then there were two.
Jacky boom boom, and Tiger Lily. Jacky needed surgery to save his eye and again 4 Paws 1 Heart came through with the surgery and Jacky’s eye looks great!!!!!!!!! I still have to get them fixed and they do still have a few challenges to overcome but because of 4 paws 1 hearts kindness these little kittens have a fighting chance!!!! I am sure i left out a lot but you get the gist Thank you so much Gina Deluca and 4 Paws 1 Heart!!! you are my hero!!!!!!!!!

Update 06/25/2012 – Remember Jack Sparrow — He was brought into the Emergency with two siblings; all had a severe issue with their eyes. Two of the siblings had to be humanely euthanized but the doctors decided to try and save Jack. They performed surgery on his eye and everything was a great success. This little guy is now with a foster who will be searching for his forever home. ~ diana
