Maggie, a Lab Mix

7/22/13 This is Maggie. She is a lab mix; 13 weeks old and eleven pounds. A super sweet female. The family that had her didn’t want her because they “thought” she was sick, (although they changed their story several times) I offered to have them sign her over to 4 Paws 1 Heart to get her out of their possession, so that we could save her from the life no puppy deserves. Maggie is happy and healthy. Thank you to our good friends at A Hopeful Heart Rescue for taking her in to find a loving, forever home. ~ gina

Update from Makayla

Remember “Gina’s Babies” — An update from Makayla. ~ diana
Happy Tail Update from Makayla!!!We’re so very thankful that this sweet girl’s adoptive parents Dennis and Carol helped Makayla write this awesome update e-mail:

“I am enjoying the time up north and new found freedoms. I have a spacious yard and they tell me that there is wild life here, but I have yet to actually interact with them.

At nine months, I think I am at my full growth. I have become quite the “princess” and even have my fur-ever parents trained to my way of thinking. It’s not easy getting them to comply some days.

I have outgrown two “carry cages” so would like to donate them to NBS. Please let us know if you would like them and how to get them to someone from NBS.

I am sending a picture of me taken recently…..you can see how pretty and precious I am. I look a bit “scruffy” but am due for my grooming on Tuesday.”

What a beautiful little lady!! Thank-you so very much Carol for sending us a wonderful picture of her all grown up!

Domino In His Foster Home

This is Domino. His owner surrendered him when he became ill. He is now healthy and can’t wait to find someone to love.   He is loving his new foster home and our friends at Hopeful Heart Animal Rescue will have him up for adoption. ~ diana

Olivia (aka Charm)

7/15/13 – We can’t get enough of our little Olivia (aka Charm). Almost two years later and look at how she’s grown. Thank you, as always, to her great mom for always updating us with new photos. ~ diana

Camila has Juvenile Renal Dysplasia

7/13/13  We wish that our dollars could have meant making Camilla all better but instead the dollars will help her to have comfort as long as she is here. Thank you to Providing for Paws for taking in this sweetheart and reaching out to everyone they could think of for help. ~ diana
“We got our many questions answered about our Camilla today and it was all bad news  It saddens us to inform you, that Camilla does in fact have JUVENILE RENAL DYSPLASIA as well as her Liver being enlarged and discolored. It would take biopsying the Liver in order to know exactly why the Liver is not functioning correctly. However since her kidney issue is something that can never be fixed, we feel there is no need to find out what the Liver problem is. Our little Camilla will have a very short life once her body continues to grow and her kidneys do not. For those of you who donated to her surgery for a Liver shunt, every dime donated has been used to treat and diagnose what was going on with our girl. Over $700.00 of it went to the two specialist we had to see. We are glad we went to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services for the second opinion, since they spotted the kidney problems in this ultrasound today, that the last specialist did not see. We are devastated by these results and will be in much pain when her time comes to have to cross the rainbow bridge. In the mean time our baby is not in pain and we will make her as comfortable as possible with special diet, meds that have been recommended and would like to raise the funds for her to see our wonderful Dr. Matt, the holistic vet that has help so greatly with our Deuce. Please pray that Camilla will live and love life to the fullest, until it is her time. Many thanks to her fosters and care takers who have given Camilla their all, to continue her fight to live.” ~ Providing For Paws

Summer’s Story

July 10, 2013 : 4 Paws 1 Heart received a call for help for a dog now named Summer. Her story was beyond heartbreaking and, of course, we sent some dollars to Summer’s vet to kick off the fundraising drive. It appears that enough money has now been raised to take care of the amputation Summer needs. Here is the story we initially received from Mary Paetz: ~ diana

“I swear I do not seek this stuff out. It finds me and how can I say no?? So I just got a call from the vet asking me if I can help them with a dog that was brought in by her owners (and I use that term very, very loosely) this afternoon to be euthanized. The vet says she is too nice of a girl to be euthanized so they got the owners to sign her over and would like to try to save her IF donations can be raised and a rescue group secured. Her back leg needs to be amputated once the infection is under control. This dog’s name is Summer. She started chewing off her paw back in January and she has now chewed off the whole entire foot on her back left leg! I have seen the picture. It will make your stomach turn and your heart break all the same time…..”

Happy Tails From Missy

7/7/13: Another update from our friends at NBS Animal Rescue and our Missy’s parents ~ diana

“HAPPY TAILS UPDATE FROM MISSY!

We’re happy to share this great update from Missy’s Mom Tina:

“Well it has been three months already ! We are so happy that Missy entered our lives. When we are out our kids can’t wait to get home to see her. They make sure we are not gone too long they don’t want her to be upset. I think we take as many pics of her as we do the kids . We love, love, love our lil Missy (lovebug) and are grateful she came into our lives. Thank you NBS and all your affiliates for all you do!”

Thank-you Tina for the awesome update! It really made our day! Give Missy a belly rub and a kiss from her Foster Parents!”

Sweet Pup Found in Warren

7/6/13  Late Friday afternoon we received a call from one of our favorite animal control officers about a sweet pup found in Warren. Here is what Lisa had to say: “She was picked up by a kindly person Thursday Evening, when a pack of kids was chasing her and throwing rocks at her in South Warren. The finder thought at first that she had a broken leg because she was limping severely. Closer observation showed it wasn’t broken but just very swollen and she had no place else to take her so I told her to bring her to the police department. The injury turned out to be a large abscess on her elbow area, very painful. We took her to Hoover Rd. Animal Hospital today, where they lanced the abscess and started her on antibiotics. Other than that she’s pretty healthy but underweight. She’s a little timid but very sweet.”

4 Paws 1 Heart will pay for the medical treatment and, once again, our rescue friends came through for the animal community. A big thank you to Mutts of Motown for taking in this sweet girl and, of course, thank you to the kind rescuer and Lisa, animal control officer extraordinaire. ~ diana
