CADBURY, PEEPS, AND THUMPER UPDATE, Well all 3 kittens are doing great! They eat a ton, poddie lots, and love to be snuggled! They are almost 5 weeks old now and will be ready for good homes in no less than 3 to 4 weeks. They are still on the bottle and not yet experienced with the litter box but we’re getting there. There has been some interest, but I haven’t had any applications filled out yet. This week I’ll be calling the ladies who first inquired and we’ll go from there. Smudge – A Domesticated Cat, Wounded and Living in a Cat Community
4/7/17 – So happy we can be there for the abandoned and abused. We were contacted by a friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart who cares for community cats. One of the guys she had been caring for showed up with a large abscess on his face. Unfortunately, it took a couple of days to catch him but thankfully it happened yesterday and our great friends at Rescue Veterinary Services squeezed us in. Smudge had obviously been in pain and as you can see from Pam Clarke‘s report, his injuries were greater than thought. As she said, Smudge will be on the road to recovery and 4 Paws 1 Heart took care of the entire bill.. ~ diana
4/8/17 Update: Smudge after his surgery, now sleeping soundly. Pam says that he was obviously someone’s cat at one time. He just wants to rub up to her and purrs constantly. When she puts food down, he eats it so fast it’s obvious that he had to ‘fight’ amongst others to eat. I just can’t imagine what life is like for an animal who was once in a home now having to live in the wild not knowing how to fend for himself. Many prayers for this little guy. Unfortunately, he was found to be FIV positive but this is not a death sentence. His rescuer will keep Smudge inside and will try to find him the perfect home.~ diana
Ferals and Dumped Cats – Rescued by Safe Haven Rescue
4/7/17 – As is typical, unfortunately, the medical needs required for stray and abandoned cats continue to be overwhelming. As I’ve said before — We Do Not Discriminate — but, we seem to be called on to help with cats more often than dogs. Here are some more cats who have been rescued by Safe Haven Rescue whom we are helping to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and in some cases treated for fleas and upper respiratory infections. My heart breaks every time I’m called about these poor forgotten or dumped animals who are on the streets to fend for themselves at no choice of their own. ~ diana
Midnight – Suffering with Many Wounds and Now FIV Positive
4/6/17 – Midnight appeared at a home after obviously being in a fight. He had many wounds on his body but was very friendly. We had Midnight visit one of our professional and generous veterinarians to have his wounds treated, checked for a microchip, vaccinated, tested, and neutered. Unfortunately, there was no microchip and although we are sure he must have been inside at one time, his owners could not be found. In the process of his vet visit, it was found that Midnight was FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) positive. According to Pets Web MD, “Cats who are infected with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) may not show symptoms until years after the initial infection occurred. Although the virus is slow-acting, a cat’s immune system is severely weakened once the disease takes hold. This makes the cat susceptible to various secondary infections. Infected cats who receive supportive medical care and are kept in a stress-free, indoor environment can live relatively comfortable lives for months to years before the disease reaches its chronic stages.” A temporary foster was found for him. ~ diana
Megan – Living in a Cat Community
4/5/17 – Meet Megan – she showed up at our Board member’s feral cat colony where she works. She was trying to trap a believed-to-be pregnant female but got what she thought was a boy (orange tabby). This poor baby had bare spots in her fur which when she was taken to the veterinarian, it was determined that it was caused from a flea allergy. She is estimated to be only 6 months old which makes us very sad but SHE WILL NEVER EVER EVER have kittens! As always, we are always there (as long as we have the funds) to stop the overpopulation of animals. Megan was spayed, vaccinated and treated for fleas and released back to her community. May God (and loving humans) continue to watch these innocent animals who deserve so much more.
Tanner – RIP Sweet Boy – You Did Not Die Alone
4/4/17 – RIP Sweet Tanner – A man working at a construction site saw this beautiful cat trying to walk on only 3 legs; he could not use one of his back legs. The cat also looked to be in pretty rough shape. The man brought him to his mom and they proceeded to clean him up and call rescues for help. Unfortunately, after four days they were unsuccessful and contacted us. Yesterday, with the help of Rachel G. and our friends at The Kitty Clinic, Clinton Twp., MI we were able to get Tanner in to see a doctor. Not surprisingly, it was bad news. Tanner’s leg was broken above the knee, his tail was also broken. And, although that could have been addressed, x-rays also showed Tanner to have an enlarged, full bladder which couldn’t expel urine. He also had liver disease which may have begun at birth (he was estimated to be 6 months old) The doctor found that his medical issues were just too severe and recommended Tanner be put out of his pain and allowed to cross the Rainbow Bridge. We don’t know what happened to poor Tanner but we are thankful that he did know love in his final days. He is now running free, playing with catnip mouses and chasing taser lights. ~ diana
Feral Cats – Everyone Can Make A Difference
4/4/17 – Please, please, please open your hearts and your homes to the abandoned, stray, and abused. There are so many innocent animals, especially, cats who need loving homes. If you can’t make a forever commitment, maybe you could foster for one of the many rescues we work with — this is your chance to make a difference. Here is what happens when cats are dumped on the streets without being neutered/spayed. The female can have a litter 3 times a year. A litter can be as many as 9 babies. 4 months after the babies are born, they can go on to have more babies. Talk about babies having babies. 4 Paws 1 Heart has assisted many individuals over the past 6 years in their attempts to stop the overpopulation and carnage — and YES, I said carnage, because so many of these innocents wind up dead on the streets. Drivers hit them, people torture them, or they just die from the brutality of living on the streets. 4 Paws 1 Heart is currently assisting with this group of 30 cats who are being brought into All About Animals during this month of free spaying and neutering. We are assisting with upper respiratory infections and other medical issues. Please share and educate. And, as you can see, the kind people who care for community cats are always in need of food. If you come to any of our fundraisers, please bring cat food and we will make sure it will be used for community cats. ~ diana
Winnie – She Kept Breaking Away from Her Abusive Owner
4/3/17 – Winnie kept showing up at the rescuer’s home with a chain around her neck – broken. The homeowner posted on lost and found pages without results. Winnie looked like she had been beaten due to wounds and scars on her head. She also appeared to have been used for breeding. The rescuer held onto Winnie for 3 weeks and was ready to give up when our good friend, Sandra A., found someone who has since become a ‘foster failure. We were contacted and, of course, we paid for Winnie to be spayed, vaccinated, tested, treated for fleas and worms, and have her wounds treated. We are thrilled to see her being loved and happy. ~ diana

“Hi Team, its me…Rosie Roo⚘ Soooo, apparently its a good thing mom caught me doing the butt scoot boogie across the patio this morning. While I was at the vetsgetting my bootie…ummm…emptied out..they noticed something that they thought requires further examination. Further examination mom???
Seriously…back there??? They told mom they felt some polyps, what the heck are polyps???
Anyways, they want mom to bring me back to have these polyp thingys checked out. So mom called Auntie Di at 4 Paws 1 Heart and 4 Paws loves me sooo much that they authorized for mom to make the appointment for next week. Umm thanks Auntie Di…I think 
😯 Mom says it will all be ok and I shouldnt worry, but please say a little prayer that shes right. Anyway, thankyou 4 Paws 1 Heart for always having my back….side! On that note, its time for all of us to get our treats, kisses & cuddles and climb into out soft beds. We love you all soooo much and will keep you posted on my bum! Love, licks, purrs, woofs & mews
