Katniss Everdeen, Snickers, Hercules, and Chance – The Mascots of 4 Paws 1 Heart

4/16/17 – Happy Easter to all of our Christian friends and Happy Passover to all of our Jewish friends. I am so thrilled to announce, that because of the phenomenal support of our friends, 4 Paws 1 Heart was selected to win $1,000 during the Home Shopping Network (HSN) Cares charity challenge. For one day in May, 4 Paws 1 Heart will be recognized by the HSN network. I will let everyone know what day is selected for us but in the meantime, here is just a few of the many happy stories you have helped us create. ~ diana

Katniss Everdeen was found on a curb in Detroit during a rainstorm, stuffed in a small carrier. She was emaciated and her spine was curved and that night she required emergency surgery where it was found that she had over one pound of material clogging her intestines. Today, as you can see, she is absolutely beautiful and in a loving home.

Snickers was found at about 5 weeks old in an icy puddle in an alley in Hamtramck, MI A 9-year old boy heard her weak meows. With the help of a ‘village’ of caring people, she found her way to 4 Paws 1 Heart. Snickers almost lost her eyes as a result of a severe upper respiratory infection but because of 4 Paws 1 Heart and a wonderful eye specialist, she retained her eyesight and lives with a loving fur and skin family.

Hercules was brought to us after he was found on the lawn of his owner’s home almost unable to move. He was emaciated and it was later found that both back legs were irreparably broken by his owner when he was just one month old. Nothing was ever done and surgery wasn’t an option. Hercules had many sessions of hydrotherapy and later found his way to a great doctor and friend who does various forms of therapy, including acupuncture. Hercules was eventually adopted by his doctor and her husband and has truly become the poster boy for abused animals.

Chance was rescued from a high-kill shelter; he was scheduled to be euthanized when it was found that both of his back legs were paralyzed. A friend contacted us about his plight and we agreed to take him under our wing. After three veterinarians suggested euthanizing Chance because no one could determine why he was paralyzed, we took him to Hercules’ mom, Dr. Tari Kern. And, today, he even has his own facebook page, “A Second Chance For Chance”.2017 calendar coverkatnisssnickersherculesChance, May 2015

Chance – Says a Prayer for All Animals

As Chance, I also pray for the many abandoned and stray defenseless animals. Everyone can make a difference through legislation, donations, fostering, adopting, and prayer.

“Hi God! Its me, Chance. Its almost Easter, and I just want you to know that this year I would like to forgo my usual Easter Basket of treats and catnip peeps. It would be sooo much better if you could have a chat with the Easter Bunny and ask him if in lieu of baskets for all of us, if he could please bring forever homes for all of the homeless animals and kittens & puppies being born outside this time of year. I know its a tall order, but it is the Easter Bunny after all! Well, its time for all of us to have our treats, kisses & cuddles and go for our nitenites. Thanks for listening,
Love Always Chance”chance 4:14:17

Gert – She Ran Into a Moving Car

4/14/17 – This beautiful girl (1-2 years old) was seen running into a moving car. We were contacted to see if we would cover a doctor visit, which we did. She was found to have a bruised lung and is on medication. She must be kept quiet for 2 weeks.  She has been placed on For The Love of Louie in hopes of finding her owner. The rescuer is calling her Gert. 4 Paws 1 Heart will cover her spay and vaccines when she is healthy. UPDATE – The doctor contacted me to tell me that Gert is also heart worm positive!! She is very docile and is still looking for a rescue. 4 Paws 1 Heart has committed to paying for her heart worm treatment. I have been told that I Heart Dogs may be able to take her in the near future. ~ diana

Widow – Surrendered Because a New Baby Was Allergic

4/14/17 – Widow is less than a year old and was surrendered because the owner had a baby who was allergic. Widow had not received any medical treatment. We were contacted by a 4p1h friend who is trying to help re-home poor Widow. 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for Widow to be spayed, vaccinated, and tested in hopes that by our taking care of her medical bills, she will be better able to find her forever loving home. ~ dianawidow 4:14:17

Honey – Found by a Homeowner; Now Ready for Adoption

4/13/17 – Honey is another friendly stray found by a homeowner who contacted us for help. Our other cat whisperer, Rachel Gerstner, was able to get Honey, transport her to one of our wonderful veterinary clinics, and make arrangements to have her fostered by another great friend, Roberta Kretz. Honey has been spayed, vaccinated, and treated for fleas and worms. She will be available for adoption and if you are interested, please contact Roberta at [email protected] ~ dianahoney w:roberta kretz 4:13:17

Paralyzed Cat Was Scheduled For Euthanasia Until One Woman Gave Him A Chance

Nova – Smart Enough to Show Up at the Right House

4/12/17 – Our community is so blessed to have so many animal advocates and 4 Paws 1 Heart. Our dear friend and cat whisperer, Debra Berolatti, is one of those people. I think the underground cat community has put out the word that if you show up at Debra’s house, she will make sure your are fed, fixed, and sheltered because all of a sudden, Debra has had cats in need showing up at her house. This is Nova who did just that. Debra was able to get Nova to the vet, complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart, and he is now with our friends at Ferndale Cat Rescue. Another life saved because of this phenomenal community. ~ diananova 4:12:17

Hobbit – Couldn’t Walk Due to an Abscess on His Leg

4/11/17 – Meet Hobbit. He showed up in a cat community unable to use his one leg. The caretaker of the community took Hobbit to the vet where x-rays were done and medication was given. After one week, Hobbit was still having a hard time walking and we were contacted. Hobbit was taken to one of our great veterinary clinics where surgery was performed on his abscess. Today he is doing quite well and continues to heal inside the caretaker’s home. ~ dianahobbit w:cheryl klos 3:25:17Hobbit w:cherylKloss 3:25:17

Adeline – Attacked by Another Animal

4/10/17 – Please pray for Adeline who is believed to have been attacked by another animal. She has multiple leg fractures and a chest injury. Our friends at Paws for Life rescued her and at this time an amputation is being considered for her injured leg. We are thankful that because of donations by our supporters we can assist our rescue friends with these difficult cases. Donations are slow at this time, so if you have a few extra dollars please consider making a donation to 4 Paws 1 Heart. Donations can be made through paypal on the donations link on this page, through our website4paws1heart.org, or by mail, P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. Thank YOU, diana
