Chloe – Was Brought to a Vet Because of a Serious Wound on Her Face But Then It Turned Out That She Had Recently Had Babies

6/17/20 – This is a tough one (like so many of the others aren’t – said with sarcasm). This is Chloe. She was left behind when her owners moved. We were contacted because a kind couple who she’s taken a liking to, saw her with a wound on her face which may have abscessed. They also thought that Chloe was either pregnant or had recently had kittens. Chloe was taken to one of our great doctors who treated her wound and took an ultra sound to determine if she was pregnant. Our doctor decided that Chloe had babies recently. She suggested Chloe be left outside in hopes that Chloe could be rescued with her kittens. This was a tough one for the rescuers in that they are ready to take her in and find a furever home. They have been searching for the kittens and will continue to do so. Say a little prayer that the family can be rescued together. – diana

Blackie – RIP – We Tried to Save Him But It Was Too Late

6/15/20 – RIP Blackie. Our good friend Kimberly Willey called yesterday afternoon for help. She was on the road and found a cat in desperate need of medical attention. He was very thin and appeared to have a prolapsed rectum. We could not get him into a day practice so we made arrangements for him to be seen at our partner emergency hospital. Little Blackie was very il and the doctor said that there was at least 6″ of intestines hanging. The blood flow had already stopped. Because of his overall condition, surgery would have been very dangerous for him. It was decided to put Blackie out of his obvious pain and let him move on to the Rainbow Bridge. The only comfort we can all find in these cases is that this little guy did not die alone, suffering on the streets but died in dignity and love. – diana

Charlie – Found on the Street Near Death’s Door

6/15/20 – Please say a prayer for Charlie. Their Last Resort Animal Rescue responded to a call for help for this little guy who was obviously at death’s door. We were contacted by a long-time friend who asked if we could help and we were happy to call in a payment to the veterinary hospital caring for Charlie at this time. Charlie’s temperature was 90.8 degrees when he was brought in. It is now, thankfully, 97.7 but still too low. He is still being treated with a heat lamp and warming bottle and will be in the hospital possibly another two days. He was very anemic from a severe infestation of fleas and his sugar level was very low; his gums were white. He has been syringe fed and his rescuers say that he is quite a fighter. I’ve asked the rescuers to keep us informed just in case further assistance is needed. There are so many ‘Charlies’ on the street and we pray for all of them. – diana

Mina – 6 Days After Her Adoption She Was Diagnosed With Cancer

6/12/20 – Asking for prayers for sweet Mina (now Cali). Six days after Mina’s adoption was final, her rescuers , Streethearts, found out that she has a cancerous mass. On June 4 she had her surgery to remove the tumor but 4 more were found. Please send out a good thought and some love for this very sweet girl found on the street. Her adopted family is very much in love with her and I truly admire Streethearts for keeping their commitment to Mina and contacting us for help. – diana

mina 2020Update:  Mina was taken to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services and was seen by one the their cancer specialists.  There were two options for treatment and the new family with the help of 4 Paws 1 Heart and a sponsor chose an option that would be more gentle on Mina.  She would start a regimen of oral chemo.  Mina started her treatment shortly afterward.
July Update – One month after treatment started, Mina was rechecked and the doctor determined that Mina was doing well.  Her treatment will continue for another 5 months while she is checked every month. – diana

Leah, Leo, and Princess – Found on the Street During the Covid Pandemic

6/11/20 – You thought we were kidding when I said we would be overwhelmed with kittens born during the pandemic. Well, if nothing else, your days will be filled with much cuteness if you follow us each day. This is Leah, Leo, and Princess, who will be getting the works, after being rescued by our friend, Cortney, as she gets back into trapping and getting cats/kittens spayed/neutered with our assistance. We couldn’t do this without you. – diana

Crixus – A Community Cat With an Infected, Very Swollen Paw

Crixus is a community cat who has become close to his caretaker and one who we’ve helped in the past with medical needs. Recently, as he was cuddling up outside with his caretaker, she realized that his paw was very swollen and he was obviously favoring it. She at first tried some homeopathic remedies as suggested by Gina and although the swelling went down, he still seemed to have pain. Crixus was taken to a vet we work with who had to anesthetize him to examine the paw. The vet determined that he had an infection and gave him an injection. While he was under, she also drew blood to be used for a FIV/Felv test. Unfortunately, the vet he was at charged 3 times as much for such a test but they were kind enough to give the rescuer the blood to be taken to a less costly hospital for testing. Crixus is eating well and the rescuer is trying to keep him in at night because, although we did pay for neutering, he is still getting in fights. The need never ends! – diana

Bonnie – Used and Abused in a Community Colony

6/8/20 – Bonnie — used and abused. A 90 year-old woman is caring for a colony of ‘feral’ cats (or most often I just think they are strays who have been abandoned by their owners or escaped from their homes). There was one cat who needed medical help. Her bottom lip had no color to it and she was thin and lethargic. Males in the colony kept taking advantage of her and getting her pregnant. Christina, the person who contacted us, is working on getting everyone spayed/neutered and we will be paying for that. Little, sweet Bonnie, just had one kitten about six weeks ago. On Saturday, Bonnie was seen by a vet and was treated for an upper respiratory infection. She was also vaccinated and tested. Unfortunately, she did test positive for FIV — but this should not be a death sentence. Christina said that Bonnie is very sweet and she would love to find a home for her. We will be following up to make sure Bonnie is spayed when she is healthy enough. Unfortunately, all of the low-cost clinics are booked through June, so we have offered to at least get all males or females in the colony spayed/neutered at a standard vet just to avoid further pregnancies. Again, as one of our friends said, the shut down of spay/neuter for almost 3 months has probably put us back 4 years in our efforts to reduce unwanted animals — especially cats who can have litters 3 times a year. Anyone interested in adopting Bonnie or taking her in, should contact Christina at: [email protected]. After everything she’s been through, Bonnie deserves some love and comfort. diana
