5/22/17 – Please pray for Jenny. We recently received the following message from Bully Love Rescue asking if we could help.
“Jenny had been seen roaming the streets for about a week before a good Samaritan was able to lure her into their home the night of May 11. She’s been shot in her back left leg, she’s emaciated, has a severe skin infection, and is covered with scars. Jenny’s upper canines are broken down to the gum line and several of the smaller teeth are gone; her gum on the left upper side is even worn way down and, to top it off she’s heart-worm positive. It was initially believed that she was a senior but she’s only 1 or 2 years old. Jenny is a very loving girl that simply wants to lean on you and be loved on. She was brought to me on May 12th and is currently being treated with antibiotics. Unfortunately, Jenny’s broken teeth are starting to abscess but nothing can be done until heart worm treatment is completed. Consequently, the veterinarian has recommended that Jenny’s pre-heart worm treatment be cut short by two weeks.”

Violet – Rescued from the Street; Now BFF to Carla
5/21/17 – Meet our little Carla’s new best friend – Violet. Little six-week old Violet was rescued by our dear friend and animal whisperer, Dee Najera. 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for her initial doctor visit and plans were made for Violet to go to our friends at the Ferndale Cat Shelter. When Violet was first brought into Dee’s home, Carla hissed and spit at Violet. I guess she was a little upset about having to share her ‘baby in the family’ status. But, guess what? The hissing stopped and the playing began and now the two are inseparable. Spunky Violet is showing Carla how to be a kitten and the family thinks that this is what Carla needs to help her recovery from ‘paralyzed kitty’ to ‘independent kitty’. So — Violet, mentor kitty, won’t be going anywhere right now. ~ diana
Tobi – In His Forever Home
5/19/17 – Tobi Update! Remember the pup that we recently helped that needed his leg amputated? Well here he is thriving very well with his new furry friends. What’s even better is he will be living with Bruno!
Bruno was one of the pups from the litter of 5 that I hand-raised last year. (See the story of the Shih Tzu Five on our website, 4paws1heart.org) I’m so happy we were able to give Tobi a second chance by paying for the medical he needed. It is because of all of you and our amazing support system. Now he has a wonderful family and a forever home where he will be showered with endless unconditional love. ♡♡♡♡ Gina
Boomer, Blake, Bethany – Rescued During Trap/Neuter/Return
5/19/17 – 4 Paws 1 Heart’s mission is to “Reduce the number of homeless animals by funding medical treatment for abandoned and stray companion animals”. In keeping with our mission, we are always happy to support those who work tirelessly in caring for community cats. This includes feeding, trapping, transporting to and from veterinary clinics, finding homes for the non-feral, and more often than not using their own funds. Cristen is one of those many people who we’ve been honored to assist. This is Boomer, Blake, and Bethany. Boomer and Blake are thought to be the males who have been impregnating several females in a cat community recently found by Cristen. Five mothers have been found with kittens. The kittens are being placed while the moms and males are being spayed/neutered and returned to the community (as appropriate). Please remember that it truly takes a village to make a difference. ~ diana
Cuddles – Rescued from the Streets
5/17/17 – Sweet Cuddles was recently rescued. She is very sweet and has been treated for an upper respiratory infection. 4 Paws 1 Heart is happy that we can give another sweet animal a second chance at life. Anyone interested in this little one should contact [email protected] ~ diana
Precious – Adopted from a Texas Rescue Only to Find She is Heart Worm Positive
5/16/17 – Prayers for Precious. A friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart contacted us in hopes we could assist. Her grandmother recently adopted this sweetie from a rescue in Texas (no judging). Unfortunately, when she had Precious examined by her vet, she learned that Precious has heart worm. When she contacted the rescue, the rescue ignored her and Precious’ need for treatment. Obviously this was not expected and the grandmother could not afford the medical and would have had to give up Precious. We will cover Precious’ heart worm treatment but I also want to use this situation as a warning to those looking for an animal to adopt. Please make sure you do your homework and work with reputable rescues and shelters who are local. There is no reason to search out of State when there are so many abandoned and stray animals in our rescues and shelters. ~ diana
Phoenix – A Victim of Hoarding and a Fire Bomb
5/15/17 – Although we continue to help new animals each day, I wanted to share this happy update on this Monday morning. This was a horrific situation that we were contacted about and we did our best to assist with medical bills for the survivors. We are so thankful for our friends, Denise and Shelly, for taking in Phoenix and giving him the love and patience he needed. ~Diana
“Our dear Phoenix came to us over a year ago after the house he lived in Detroit was fire bombed. Out of 67 cats only 7 survived. If thats not horrific enough they were doused with firehoses and left in carriers for 2 days. Phoenix was in shock, suffered severe smoke inhalation and was beyond traumatized. We guess he was also pretty much feral. He stayed in a cat tower in our finished basement to decompress & heal his lungs. For 7 months he refused to leave the cat tower and basically just stared right through us for months, he was beyond traumatized. Slowly he allowed small petting by Aunt Shelly in the tower but still refused to come out. Aunt Shelly promised him he could do everything in his own time, he was safe and loved. We decided to make him a permanent member of our family about 4 months ago when we deemed him unadoptable. Slowly he started coming up to the kitchen and recently started taking chicken from our hands. He also recently started roaming the house after everyone was in bed with his best friend Bridgette always at his side. And then tonight when I went to turn off the lights in the cat room (yes, they have their own room) there he was..and he’s still there doing cat stuff…upstairs!!! We are to say the least overjoyed!!! He is finally, finally learning to trust and accept love ❤ ~ Denise”
Angel and Cookie (aka Lucy) – Before Adoption
5/13/17 Happy Mother’s Day! It doesn’t matter if your children are human, felines, or canines. It doesn’t matter if you are a foster mom, an adoptive mom, or a birth mom. What matters is the unconditional love and guidance moms bring to their children. Here is a photo from last year of one of the best foster moms in our Village — Gina’s Angel. Angel has fostered week-old kittens, puppies, recovering animals, and animals, like Cookie (now Lucy), who have been so emotionally abused. Today, Angel continues to be there for any lost or broken animal that Gina DeLuca rescues and Lucy is in her forever, loving home with our good friends Jean McAlees Winteringham and her husband, Phil. Much love to all of our friends who make our work possible. ~ diana
Minnie – Found on the Streets Needed Socializing and Mentoring
5/12/17 It truly takes a village every day. Rescuers, fosters, donors, adopters, and 4 Paws 1 Heart ~ diana
“Minnie’s bootcamp stay is coming to an end today. She passed with flying colors even though she is still a bit hissy at times…wouldn’t you be??? look at that tummy and that isn’t all chicken! I had the pleasure of working with Minnie and she is definetly less feral….but not less pregnant. So Kim Wegner from Happy Tails Scs will be picking her up today ( Kim Harris see she IS getting her back!!!) Thank you 4 Paws 1 Heart for taking care of her initial medical when she was found, hit by a car. A Second Chance For Chance for helping with her food for her. It certainly does take people working together to allow animals to have a 2nd chance for a happy life. I can’t wait to see her babies…Minnie is going to be an excellent Mommy! And Happy Early Mothers day to ALL the ladies out there- whether you have children of your own or not, you have touched many lives along your journey. ~ Dee”
