Precious – Adopted from a Texas Rescue Only to Find She is Heart Worm Positive

5/16/17 – Prayers for Precious. A friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart contacted us in hopes we could assist. Her grandmother recently adopted this sweetie from a rescue in Texas (no judging). Unfortunately, when she had Precious examined by her vet, she learned that Precious has heart worm. When she contacted the rescue, the rescue ignored her and Precious’ need for treatment. Obviously this was not expected and the grandmother could not afford the medical and would have had to give up Precious. We will cover Precious’ heart worm treatment but I also want to use this situation as a warning to those looking for an animal to adopt. Please make sure you do your homework and work with reputable rescues and shelters who are local. There is no reason to search out of State when there are so many abandoned and stray animals in our rescues and shelters. ~ dianaprecious w:nikki rackley - heart worm 5:6:17precious wnikki rackley 5:6:17

Phoenix – A Victim of Hoarding and a Fire Bomb

5/15/17 – Although we continue to help new animals each day, I wanted to share this happy update on this Monday morning. This was a horrific situation that we were contacted about and we did our best to assist with medical bills for the survivors. We are so thankful for our friends, Denise and Shelly, for taking in Phoenix and giving him the love and patience he needed. ~Diana

“Our dear Phoenix came to us over a year ago after the house he lived in Detroit was fire bombed. Out of 67 cats only 7 survived. If thats not horrific enough they were doused with firehoses and left in carriers for 2 days. Phoenix was in shock, suffered severe smoke inhalation and was beyond traumatized. We guess he was also pretty much feral. He stayed in a cat tower in our finished basement to decompress & heal his lungs. For 7 months he refused to leave the cat tower and basically just stared right through us for months, he was beyond traumatized. Slowly he allowed small petting by Aunt Shelly in the tower but still refused to come out. Aunt Shelly promised him he could do everything in his own time, he was safe and loved. We decided to make him a permanent member of our family about 4 months ago when we deemed him unadoptable. Slowly he started coming up to the kitchen and recently started taking chicken from our hands. He also recently started roaming the house after everyone was in bed with his best friend Bridgette always at his side. And then tonight when I went to turn off the lights in the cat room (yes, they have their own room) there he was..and he’s still there doing cat stuff…upstairs!!! We are to say the least overjoyed!!! He is finally, finally learning to trust and accept love ~ Denise”phoenix w:dee najera 5:14:17phoenix5:4:16

Angel and Cookie (aka Lucy) – Before Adoption

5/13/17 Happy Mother’s Day! It doesn’t matter if your children are human, felines, or canines. It doesn’t matter if you are a foster mom, an adoptive mom, or a birth mom. What matters is the unconditional love and guidance moms bring to their children. Here is a photo from last year of one of the best foster moms in our Village — Gina’s Angel. Angel has fostered week-old kittens, puppies, recovering animals, and animals, like Cookie (now Lucy), who have been so emotionally abused. Today, Angel continues to be there for any lost or broken animal that Gina DeLuca rescues and Lucy is in her forever, loving home with our good friends Jean McAlees Winteringham and her husband, Phil. Much love to all of our friends who make our work possible. ~ dianaangel and cookie 5:13:17

Minnie – Found on the Streets Needed Socializing and Mentoring

5/12/17 It truly takes a village every day. Rescuers, fosters, donors, adopters, and 4 Paws 1 Heart ~ diana

“Minnie’s bootcamp stay is coming to an end today. She passed with flying colors even though she is still a bit hissy at times…wouldn’t you be??? look at that tummy and that isn’t all chicken! I had the pleasure of working with Minnie and she is definetly less feral….but not less pregnant. So Kim Wegner from Happy Tails Scs will be picking her up today ( Kim Harris see she IS getting her back!!!) Thank you 4 Paws 1 Heart for taking care of her initial medical when she was found, hit by a car. A Second Chance For Chance for helping with her food for her. It certainly does take people working together to allow animals to have a 2nd chance for a happy life. I can’t wait to see her babies…Minnie is going to be an excellent Mommy! And Happy Early Mothers day to ALL the ladies out there- whether you have children of your own or not, you have touched many lives along your journey. ~ Dee”minnie 5:13:17

5/11/17 – UPDATE: Bobbie had surgery late Tuesday and it was necessary to amputate his leg. He is doing well after surgery.

5/9/17 – Please pray and send positive energy today for this very sweet kitty who was roaming the streets with a broken leg. He will have surgery today when it will be decided to either place a pin in the leg or amputate it. The rescuer and the doctor will be determining the best route so that Bobbie will have the best chance of adoption and quality of life. ~ dianabobbie 5:9:17

Rosie Roo – Update

5/8/17 – Please pray for our Rosie. She is the sweetest dog I have ever met. I can’t imagine what would have happened to her had our friend, Denise, did not see of her plight. We love this sweet senior and will do whatever is necessary to make her last year’s, happy years. – diana

“Helloooo Team, its me…Rosie Roo⚘ Im home from the vet and ready for a nap. Soooo, I got my ummm, you know…back there cleaned out and my polyps checked and that was allll good 😊 I got medicine for my legs aches when its cold & rainy. Then my awesome vet looked in my mouth….sorry about the bad breath Doc. And yep, I got yucky teeth again. I only have 11 left, hope they dont take too many! So my dental is set for this Friday pending the results of my bloodwork from today. Also I got some antibacterial pads for mom to clean the little corners of my mouth that get red & irritated and a little skin infection going on from my hangy lip skin. Sheesh! My fatty tumors have not grown and my heart & lungs sound good. So we’re praying all goes well with my dental. Its always scary giving a girl my age anesthesia, but becuse 4 Paws 1 Heart and their generous donors love me so much Im able to get excellent veterinary care and they take extra special precautions with us seniors. Thankyou 4 Paws 1 Heart! Sooo, now Im going to have myself a well earned nap before dinner time. Love you, Love Rosie Roo⚘”

Sam – Wandering Alone With a Huge Wound on his Body

5/5/17 – Meet Sam. This poor boy was wandering the property of an apartment complex with this huge wound on his body. Unfortunately he had no microchip and an owner could not be found. He was taken to one of our favorite hospitals, Patterson Veterinary, where the doctor determined that the wound was probably the result of a but that got severely infected and burst. Poor Sam had to have surgery so that the wound could be scraped out and stitched back up. Say a little prayer for this sweet boy that his wound will heal and that he can find a second chance at life because of kindness of our village. ~ dianasam w:jo addington 5:4:17

Momma Kat and Kry Baby – Found Living Amongst Community Cats

4/27/17 – There are so many amazing people in our community. One such person is a volunteer for when of our favorite rescues, Tigerlily Cat Rescue. During her Spring break, she and another friend trapped/neutered/returned 22 cats. As many who have been involved in major TNR projects or who have cared for Community Cats know, very often domestic cats and kittens are found in the process. In those cases, attempts are made to find rescues who will take in the domesticated cats/kittens. Thankfully, All About Animals, is running a campaign now where all cats trapped by individuals will be neutered/spayed and receive a vaccination for free. 4 Paws 1 Heart has been asked to cover the costs of any additional medical required, such as a distemper vaccine, treatment for upper respiratory infections, flea/parasite treatment, etc. We are always happy to partner with anyone committed to reducing the number of unwanted animals. This is Momma Kat and Kry Baby. ~ diana

Roxy and Lucy – Rescued from an Abusive Household

4/26/17 – Roxy and Lucky and three cats were rescued from an abusive household. The owner had left behind her pets when she decided to leave home. When one of the cats was being neutered, a rubber band was found around one testicle. Roxy and Lucky were very thin, had long nails, and were dirty. They have since been seen by a veterinarian and have received their vaccines and both were heart worm tested. I am thrilled to report they were both negative. They will both be spayed/neutered this week. The cats are being taken in by our good friends, Ferndale Cat Shelter. ~ dianaRoxy: wkelly hook 4:24:17Lucky w:kelly hook 4:24:17roxy and lucky 4:21:17
