Pickers – Neglected and Abused by an Ill Owner

4/24/17 – Meet Pickers. The poor little guy was thrown out of his home when his owner became ill. Fortunately, some very kind people found him and decided to give them a permanent home. 4 Paws 1 Heart was happy to pay for Pickers medical treatment which included vaccines, neutering, testing, and flea/parasite medicines. He is once again, a very happy boy. ~ dianapickers w:laurel snyder 4:3:17

Penny – Found Living in a Garage with Another Cat Who Had to be Euthanized

This is Penny. She was caught along with another cat, Teddy, she had been living with in a garage. As you may have seen from the 4 Paws 1 Heart posts, Teddy, who looked just like Penny, had to be humanely euthanized because he was so severely ill from an upper respiratory infection and then was found to have feline leukemia. Penny was also brought to the vet, withe the help of 4 Paws 1 Heart and a very kind rescuer, Kelly Hook, and Penny was found with feline leukemia. After having the experience of being with Teddy while he was humanely euthanized, Kelly just didn’t have the heart to humanely euthanize Penny because she has leukemia; she did not have any other issues as did Teddy. Now Kelly is looking for a loving home for this shy girl who needs to be an only cat or in a family with other cats with leukemia. If you can help, please contact Kelly Hook at khook2010@yahoo.com ~ diana

Mickey – Heart Worm Treatment is Over – Next Stop – A Forever Home

4/21/17 – Mickey was found near a local cemetery on a cold January day drinking water from a puddle. Fortunately, a good samaritan rescued him but could not find his owner. She contacted 4 Paws 1 Heart and Mickey was taken to a vet. It was thought he had cherry eye. What he had, was Entropion of the eye which required surgery. He was also found to be heart worm positive. Today he goes to the vet to get his last treatment and then he will be able to be neutered and on his way to finding his forever home. Here he is in the back seat looking over his foster brother. Everyone at Five Mile Animal Hospital has fallen in love with this very sweet boy.mickey 4:21:17mickey january, 2017

Teddy – RIP – Humans Failed You

4/20/17 – RIP Sweet Teddy. We received an e mail on 4/18/17 from someone who had been trying for days to get help for 3 cats who had taken up residence in her garage. One of the 3 was very, very sick. Thankfully, our friends Rachel Gerstner and Kelly Hook jumped into action and Kelly was able to get Teddy yesterday and the caring staff of Patterson Veterinary Hospital made room to see Teddy. Unfortunately, our little guy was too far gone. He was FIV positive which meant his immune system could not protect him from the ravages of an upper respiratory infection which was the worst that the doctor has seen. He had difficulty breathing and the doctor thought he would die during his examination. With the doctor’s recommendation, we all decided to put Teddy out of his pain and suffering. He is now running free with the many fur friends who have gone before us. God’s speed, sweet boy. ~ dianateddy 4:19:17

Tacoma – A Senior Dog Found on the Side of the Road with an Open Wound on Her Leg

4/20/17 – I received a call from one of our friends who has also been protesting at the Michigan Anti Cruelty facility and intercepting animals who were being brought to their death. This very sweet dog was lying on the side of the road and it appeared she had been hit by a car. We immediately authorized Tacoma to be taken to the hospital. It turned out that she is a elderly dog with injuries that were old and no longer treatable. She did receive antibiotics and pain meds. She had an open wound that needs time to heal. Tacoma is safe and will be with the rescue Safe and Sound as soon as they can find a foster. ~ dianatacoma w:harrygordon

Oscar – Prayers Needed for This Very Sick Little Boy

4/18/17 – Prayers needed for this very sweet boy who has been through a lot in his short life. This is Oscar. A friend who we often work with on trap/neuter/return, contacted us because Oscar just couldn’t seem to get rid of an upper respiratory infection. Oscar was rescued in an abandoned home during the brutal month of January. He had such a severe upper respiratory infection that he couldn’t open his eyes. Unfortunately, he hasn’t gotten better so he again went to the doctor who found that Oscar was diabetic and had bronchitis. The doctor recommended that an MRI be done to determine why there was a continuing issue. 4 Paws 1 Heart was again contacted and we authorized a visit to one of our favorite doctors at The Kitty Clinic. The doctor took x rays and found that Oscar has a mass in his abdomen and is concerned about his heart. The doctor recommended that Oscar see a specialist for more tests. These tests are very expensive and at this time we are trying to determine the best next steps. ~ dianaoscar w:kelly hook 11:4:17riley 3:31:17

4/17/17 – 4 Paws 1 Heart is humbled to announce the BRAD and AUDRA LAUBERT MATCHING GIFT CHALLENGE in memory of Bradley K. Laubert (1980 – 2017) and his sister, Audra M. Laubert (1967 – 2014). Hope – Rescued with Severe Heart Worm

4/18/17 – Prayers Needed! This beautiful girl, Hope, was running the streets in January, emaciated and very sick. Fortunately, a loving family rescued her and attempted to find her owner. None could be found. She was immediately taken to a veterinarian because her body was covered with wounds, one wound was a very deep hole. Hope’s wounds were treated but then she began coughing and had trouble eating and drinking. Her rescuers took her to two veterinarians, one thought she would need open heart surgery. The other conducted more tests and felt that was not needed. What everyone did agree to was that her heart was very damaged from heart worm. A friend of 4p1h contacted us about Hope’s plight; the family was running out of money to pay for vet bills and by this time, they were worried that they could not ‘rescue’ her after all. I contacted the rescuers and now 4 Paws 1 Heart will work with the rescuers in hopes of giving Hope a second chance in life. Hope will be seeing one of our favorite doctors at Patterson Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Zalac, today. Please say a little prayer that Hope can be on the road to recovery very soon. If we can make this happen, her rescuers will become her permanent, loving family. ~ dianahope 4:18:17 --hope 4:18:17heartworm

Charlie – 4 Years Ago He Was a Beaten Dog

4/17/17 – Happy Update on one of the 4,000 animals we’ve helped since August, 2010. Your donations give these animals not only a second chance in life, but they also ensure other unwanted animals will no longer be born. Donations can be made through paypal by using the donate link on this page or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. Here was our first contact about Charlie:

“Dear Diana and Gina,
I’m writing to you because I’ve taken in a stray dog who is in need of urgent help. I found him in my neighborhood hanging out by an abandoned school. He was whimpering and clearly in rough shape, with swollen front legs and and part of his mouth hanging limp, so I brought him in to my vet. She speculated that he was likely a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. She also said that she believed that while his injuries were serious and would require surgery, he could be treated. Of course, given all he has been through, his psychological wounds would need a lot of attention as well. One of the vet techs told me about your organization, and I wanted to see if you would consider taking this very sweet boy on. I am currently keeping him in my back yard, feeding him and giving him the antibiotics and pain med prescribed by the vet.” ~ Leah”

With the help of 4 Paws 1 Heart and generous donations made through an on-line fundraiser conducted by Leah and with the help of TailWaggers, Charlie was treated. And, now, we are blessed to get this update and photo:

4/14/17 – “Here’s a picture I just took of Charlie, who 4 Paws 1 Heart helped make whole again almost 3 years ago, after he was used for dog fighting and abandoned in my neighborhood. He is a sweet, happy boy and is always making me laugh– like when he looks goofy with drool and tongue sticking out 🙂 ~ Leah”charlie w:leah wiste 4:17:17Charlie, 2013
