SO I GET THIS CALL…. Caller: Can u take my cat because she has a flea allergy? She is tearing herself up, so I have a cone on her.. She is wanting to scratch off her scabs and I can’t take care of her anymore. Me: Have u TRIED treating the fleas and the allergy? Her: Yes once, a few months ago but she keeps getting them when she goes outside. Me: Can u put her in another room or confine her when the door is opening, so she can’t run out?? Her: I’ve tried, but the last time she got out she got pregnant. The litter was born dead because she was still so young. Me: R u giving her any medication? Her: I give her childrens Clariton but it makes her drugged and lethargic, so I’m worried… Me: Who told u to give her that?!? Her: No one…I just thought it would help. Me: What milligram are you giving her? Her: Ummmmmmmmm… I don’t know it’s for children??? Me: Is she on a flea preventative?!?! Her: Yes, over the counter flea stuff from Walmart, but they don’t work. My other animals don’t have a flea allergy…so I can keep them. Me: Animals are a responsibility and it cost money to care for them even when they get ill if you can’t do that you shouldn’t have animals. A flea allergy is treatable if you kept your cat inside she wouldn’t keep getting them! Has she had more than the one litter? Her: Yes, she had another one, but all of them died too because she wouldn’t nurse them. They died one by one, and there were five kittens. Me: Well that’s great did you ever think of getting her fixed?! Her: No, I can’t afford it, but she really likes to go outside and she is soooooo friendly. She is just over 1 yr old, sweet, and very playful. Me: Ok, it sounds like this cat is in a horrible environment. Her: I want her to go to a no kill shelter. Me: It sounds like she is miserably neglected and she would be better off anywhere else. Just bring her to me tomorrow and sign her over to “4 paws”! ~ Gina

Angel – Rescued From a Culvert

10/29/12  A couple of months ago, 4 Paws 1 Heart, was contacted by one of our dear friends, Minnie Gamble.  Her friend had found a kitten stuck in a culvert at the end of her drive-way and couldn’t get it out.  4P1H offered to pay medical bills (including spaying) once the kitten was rescued and adopted.  Well, as you can see from the Cheryl’s e-mail, the kitten was finally rescued and now it’s time for spaying.  You should know that Cheryl and her husband have adopted this little sweetheart and although their resident cat isn’t thrilled right now, I’m sure that things will work out for the best.  Thank God for such caring people.
Here is Cheryl’s e-mail along with some photos. ~ diana

“Here are a few pictures of Angel.  Her mouth and nose are healing good. Its actually a miracle we have her because I never walk out to my driveway. It took us 2 days to get her out of the culvert but we got her. It’s funny because my son and daughter-in-law had just flown in, I was telling Marlene what was going on and we could not get her. They did not even take the suitcases out of the car, went right to the culvert with bag chairs and sat there until they finally got her, took about 4 hours but they got her. And they are dog people! Cannot find the picture of everyone sitting at the end of the driveway waiting to get her, it’s a cute picture.Thank you for everything! ~ Cheryl

Boo No Longer Roaming the Streets

This is “BOO”. She’s been roaming the streets for quite some time with no place to call “home”.  A very compassionate couple called us for help to get Boo off the streets. We got Boo fully checked out, vaccinated, and feluk/fiv tested by Dr. Lutz and Boo is now in a foster home:) One more kitty with a 2nd chance! ~ Gina

Cat Hero Kali (Part II)

CAT HERO KALI (part II) This baby was brought in on Sunday to the E.R. Again, Sasha was on duty. A man almost ran over the kitten with a lawn mower. Luckily, she’s a loud screamer and the man heard her and brought her in. She is about 1-1/2-2 weeks old. Sasha took her home to once again care for her. Her eyes just opened this morning. As with all kittens lacking a mom, this one needed to be fed and pottied every few hours. The last couple of nights, for some reason, Sasha’s alarm did not go off in the middle of the night so that Sasha could get up and feed the baby. But both nights Kali made sure Sasha woke up by ramming her head into Sasha like a bull and pulling the covers off of her. The little one is doing great and is now named Butternut. Did you ever hear of a therapy cat? ~ diana

Hero Cat Kali

Kali

HERO CAT: This is Kali a 2-year-old Balinese female that came into Cats Veterinary as a stray after being attacked by hunting dogs. 4 Paws 1 Heart Board member, Sasha Oza, was there to save her and give her a forever home. About 6 weeks ago a 2 and 1/2 week old kitten (Athena) was brought in by a woman who found her all alone in her garden.

Athena

Sasha took over her care but Athena’s health was very touch and go. Sasha didn’t think she was going to make it. Athena ‘crashed’ twice and almost died. One night while Sasha was sleeping, Kali alerted Sasha. Sasha got up to check Athena and found her limp and lifeless. Sasha rushed her to the E.R. where they put in an IV catheter. Athena then required meds and fluids every hour. If Kali hadn’t woken up Sasha when she did, it would have been too late for Athena. Athena is now doing fantastic! She’s a silly kitten that loves to play with my dog, and Kali. Who says that only dogs can be heroes! ~ diana

Trooper Update

TROOPER UPDATE: The following e-mail was received from our friends at Michigan Cat Rescue: ~ diana

Trooper After

“Diana: Nancy and I want to thank you again for helping us help Trooper. He was finally well enough physically and psychologically to go up for adoption last week and he was scooped up right away by a wonderful lady who followed his journey on FB. He will be pampered and get the much deserved life he should have.

A lot of people came out to see Trooper at our adoption event to say goodbye before he was whisked away to his forever home. He was quite the celebrity and a lot of people followed him on FB! LOL”

We could not have done it without your help. God Bless you.

Gracie (now known as Angie)

UPDATE 9/28/2012:  Gracie (now known as Angie):  Cynthia, our 4P1H Board member and foster for A Scooter’s ResQ, sent us this message and photo. ~ diana   “Angie is so cute…love her already. Thank you, Gina, for saving her she will make someone a very special companion.”

4P1H NEEDS YOUR HELP!! Gracie was bleeding out of her ear and couldn’t walk. Her eye on the right side was off for two days, but after emergency medical care from our doctors and staff, I’m happy to say she is eating, walking, purring soooo loudly. A child slammed a door on her and ruptured her eardrum on the right side. She was surrendered over to 4 paws 1 heart who paid for her medical needs and gave her a second chance.Gracie is a stray female kitten, about 11 weeks old, and all white with the exception of a gray spot in the middle of her forehead. WE NEED HELP FROM ONE OF OUR RESCUE FRIENDS TO TAKE HER IN TO FIND HER A HOME WHERE SHE WILL BE LOVED AND TAKEN CARE OF. If you can help, contact Gina at [email protected] ~ gina

Another Life Saved

Update 09/28/2012 – The following e-mail was sent by the new dad. ~diana
“Well, it can finally be announced that Cali Purrbox has officially tak
en over the apartment and my heart. She only needed a few hours to come out of hiding and explore my hand, arm, lap, and face. Then it was (and still is) the rest of her new home. During all of these maneuvers, she has purred and talked to me constantly. Her appetite returned yesterday; and, she respects her pan. So, I’d say things are going well, and I thank God for the whole experience that brought us together. So, yadonegoodlady! Will try to keep you updated; but, she just seems to be so normal, an extraordinary feline, you know the results of her amazing journey. Keep up the tremendous work.”

Another Life Saved! A couple of weeks ago I made a 4 Paws 1 Heart presentation to the Mt.Clemens Lion Club. A gentleman who I had met before (Bill) told me that he had been mourning the loss of his cat who had died this past July; but, he was now ready to save another little one.

I told him that I would let him know the next time we were looking for a home. Well, this past week-end Gina received a call from a woman whose grandmother had died and left a six year old, totally declawed, female cat. The granddaughter took in the cat but she also has a couple of children, dogs, and two other cats. Grandma’s cat did not fit in well and had urinating issues because of the trauma and stress. The granddaughter asked Gina if she could find a home for the cat or she would have to take her to the shelter. I immediately thought of Bill. I told him of the situation and, without hesitation, he agreed to take in this soon to be homeless baby. After being examined by the doctor and tested for urinary tract issues, Gina delivered the kitty to Tony and I. This kitty is so sweet and lovable; she kept trying to be petted through the gate of the carrier. We happily delivered this sweetie to her new home and we know that she will be well cared for and loved. May God Watch over this cutie and her new dad. ~ diana

Pudden the Stray Cat

Pudden was a stray kitten found with a really bad double eye infection. There was fluid building up in his eyes causing pressure and not allowing him to see very well. We got him all checked out by Dr. Lutz and he is now on the road to recovery. An update from his foster mom today said that he is almost fully healed and he might have a potential home lined up:) Paws crossed ~ Gina
