Update on Jimmy
Babe Needs Knee Surgery
Babe was rescued needing ACL knee surgery and her rescuer couldn’t afford to have it done because of a recent string of bad luck resulting in financial hardship. 4 Paws 1 Heart was able to help him raise some money and then helped with the remaining bill. Dr. Balaj, did her surgery yesterday, and she is doing very well. She will go home today and recover over the next couple months. ACL surgery commonly happens to dogs and there are not many orthopedic surgeons in the area, so if you know someone who has a dog needing this procedure have them call the Harper Woods Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Balaj is very reasonable in price and very good at what he does! ~ gina
Stolen 17 Year Old Dog
STOLEN 17 YEAR OLD DOG FROM EASTPOINTE IS REUNITED WITH HER OWNER TONIGHT! Her name is “Sugar” and she was stolen in Eastpointe last night in front of her own home and then tossed out of a window on the highway left for DEAD. She suffered no injuries, but The good Samaritan who seen her tossed out the window took her to the pet store at Macomb Mall because they didn’t know what to do with her.
An employee there suggested they call the afterhours vet since it was late. I spoke with the good Samaritan and told him he could bring her in and sign her over to “4 paws 1 heart”. Today, the original owner searched, called, and posted EVERYWHERE to find her 17 year old stolen dog, and amazingly she called the pet store at Macomb Mall where an employee told her a dog fitting that description was seen thrown out of a window and taken to our clinic last night. She arrived at our clinic today looking for her dog. After all we see here, I was shocked and taken back that someone would steal this gran-dog! I happened to be at the clinic and reunited this baby with her mom. This just goes to show that it doesn’t matter what age the dog is PEOPLE ARE STEALING DOGS! DO NOT LET YOUR ANIMAL OUT UNSUPERVISED EVER! The owner was crying, happy, and so relieved that her dog was safe in our hands. There was a guardian angel looking out for this dog and thank God she is ok and back HOME with her mommy (who is posted in this picture:) ~Gina
People, Pets and Vets
We just got back from the People, Pets, and Vets event at Macomb Community College (which was great) and look at who came to visit us — our friend Gordon Shell. Here he is with our little Ruby, who, by the way will be looking for a forever home when her broken legs are healed. A big thanks to Dr. Tari Kern for coordinating the event; Hercules for being there and being our connection; and to all of the 4 Paws 1 Heart Board Members (Darlene, Melissa, Gina, and Cheryl) who helped spread the word on the achievements of 4 Paws 1 Heart. ~ diana
Fiona’s First Halloween
Hercules Update
Boy, have I had a fun week! I got to go school and hydrotherapy and went for lots of walks too. Today, I competed in my very first CHU (Canines & Humans United) Rally event at Dog Zone, which was very exciting. There were so many new things in the ring because it was decorated for Halloween, so I was a little distracted. Plus, there were more people and dogs than usual for when I work out. I didn’t pay as much attention to mom in the ring, but we got it done anyhow and everyone said that I got good marks! I qualified in both my runs and got ribbons for this — I only missed 4th place by 1 point in the 1st run (although I walked better in the 2nd run). I also got a ribbon for Best Halloween costume in the costume contest today — I wore my skeleton outfit that you saw last week.
Don’t forget to come visit me at People, Pets & Vets this Saturday, November 3rd from 11am-3pm at Macomb Community College at M-59/Garfield! I heard that it is a great place for kids and I love kids!

Cruelty of Dog Fighting
Please take the time to read this and share this. It will turn your stomach but it’s important for people to know the cruelty of dog fighters, including Michael Vick.
Animal Legal Defense Fund Animal Fighting Case Study: Michael Vick
Please contact Speaker Bolger (Michigan) and tell him that you want Senate Bills 356, 357, and 358 to be scheduled for vote on the House floor. These have already been passed in the Senate. If passed in the house, the bills will go to the Governor for signing. These bills are sponsored by Senators Bieda, Jones, and Johnson. ~ diana

4 paws 1 heart took in a Puppy with two broken legs and she needs your prayers. Last night Ruby fell down a flight of stairs and both of her front leg’s are broken. We are not sure if the damage is beyond our means of repair, but we will know more later on this morning.. ~ Gina
