Pregnant Punkin

Punkin was rescued by Kim, Warren Animal Control Officer. She was pregnant with 14 puppies! The litter had to be aborted in order to save the mom’s life. Dr. Lutz, Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center, performed the surgery last night and Punkin is hospitalized and recovering wonderfully. She is very sweet and a couple years old. Kim hopes to have a rescue lines up but if she doesn’t, any rescue interested in helping Kim should contact her. ~ diana

Vincenzo the Puppy from the South

Meet Vincenzo — or as some like to call him — Vinnie. He was brought into the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center last week because he had worms. The owners no longer wanted him although they had just rescued him during their recent  trip down South. The woman was so grossed out by the worms, she wanted no part of him — our lucky day. The owners surrendered him and 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for his medical treatment. As happens often when Gina takes in a little one, he made a visit to our house and here he is on his new blanket, (made by my niece, Alex) on our kitchen island. I think that I heard Luigi in the background saying “you always yell at me when I get up there — wtf!” Anyway, Vinnie, who we think is part German Shepherd and Coon Hound and about 8 weeks old is now in the great care of NBS Animal Rescue. Rebecca and Aaron stopped by last night on their way home and Vinnie got lots of hugs and kisses from the gang. Thanks again to the staff of AUCCC and our friends at NBS. ~ diana

In Memory of Crystal the Puppy

8/11/12 Crystal the puppy was another owner surrender. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and severely malnourished. She weighed 1 pound! We tried all we could to save her. Blood-work, fluids, tube feeding, and despite our efforts she passed away at 11:30pm tonight. Her short little life was taken to soon and maybe could have been prevented if her owner didn’t wait until she was unresponsive and seizing to seek medical attention! It’s very sad..but this is the world we live in. ~ Gina

Although one would have to wonder how this poor baby got to this point without someone noticing her. It reminds me of our Peanut and how she was left in a corner to die while people came and went in the owner’s home. In Peanut’s case, thank God that a concerned relative literally took the dog and brought him to the Urgent and Critical Care Center where he was taken in by Gina and now lives in the lap of luxury on Lake St. Clair. I’m sorry that no one was there for little Crystal. To honor Crystal who suffered so greatly, I’m posting her story. Speechless! ~ diana

It was just to late for us to save her little life..heartbreaking

Sweatpea Wearing His Rain Poncho

Sweetpea Says: “My Foster Mom said I had to wear my rain poncho outside today because she was afraid with all of the rain and storms I might melt because I’m so SWEET!

***sigh*** Moooom, why don’t my foster brudders have to wear a silly poncho?? Noooooo, PLEASE don’t post my picture on FB – you can’t even see my pretty ears with this silly hood on!”

Sweetpea is so smart he  has mastered sit, down, and come all in sign language – we’ve got a firm grasp on short stays, and we’re working on shake. Today he even came running in from the backyard when we “called” him with hand signals!

4 Paws1 Heart is happy to send some medical dollars to help Angel who was rescued by our good friends at Loveabull Paws Rescue. Angel was found to have liver issues and is still being tested to find exact causes. Helping Dog Aide with Charlie

4 Paws 1 Heart is once again happy to support the amazing women of Dog Aide 2012 by sending some medical dollars for Charlie. ~ diana

“This is Charlie, he is Baby’s brother… last night Baby died while being transported to the ER, doctor’s suspected he died of Parvo. Dog Aide Members Mel S. and Jen C. went to the owner’s home today to get custody of Baby’s brother Charlie, his owner’s surrendered him over to Dog Aide and he has been taken straight to our vet where he has tested positive for Parvo. We are starting treatment immediately in an effort to save this little guy’s life.

Dog Aide is documenting and conducting a full investigation into Baby & Charlie’s owner and will be working with the proper authorities.”

Hercules Photo Shoot

Hercules Update: We had a photo shoot today after Hercules’ hydrotherapy session with Lori Jobak of 4Paws Health & Wellness. The original intention was for my friend, Joe Fabian, to get some photos that could be used in an upcoming Macomb Daily ad. But, before going, I contacted Aaron Fortin, from NBS Animal Rescue, because he’s been hankering to meet the Mighty Hercules. Well, it was a shooting frenzy! Even today, people who were coming in to check out Bark A Bout were gathering around checking him out! I think that maybe Bark A Bout ought to use this photo for some of their ads. Hercules is doing so well I continue to be in awe. The work that Lori and Dr. Kern and her husband have done and the results are inspiring.~ diana

Prayers Needed for Sweetpea

PRAYERS needed for our Sweetpea McGee — an update from Rebecca Akins of NBS: “Sweetpea McGee was admitted back into the ER vet tonight after an evening of being listless, having nasal discharge, and his neck lump increasing in size, hardness, and warmth. He is stable, has a normal temperature, normal pulse, and is still just as sweet as pie.

The good news is that the wonderful vets, vet techs,

and staff at the Animal Urgent Critical Care Center are taking very good care of him and are doing everything they can to help make Sweetpea as comfortable and healthy as possible. Many thanks to Gina from 4 Paws 1 Heart for her help in coordinating Sweetpea’s medical care and being so wonderfully supportive. ♥

We’ll post an update as soon as we know more.”

Can you imagine how this poor baby would have been suffering in the hands of that miserable owner had Matthew Vergadamo had not rescued him and took action with 4 Paws 1 Heart??? ~ diana
