8/12/17 – 4 Paws 1 Heart has been assisting a caring 80+ year old who has been caring for a cat community for many, many years. As hard as she has tried, every so often a kitten will show up. Knowing she will take care of the cats, many people in the neighborhood, will also ‘dump’ their cats at her home. We have helped this wonderful woman with donated food and, of course, medical treatment which always includes spay/neuter. Maui, Muana, and Penelope are three of such babies recently discovered and placed with our friend, Patricia B. Anyone interested in adopting these sweeties, should contact: [email protected]

Star and Stripes – Two of Eight Kittens Found in a Yard
8/11/17 – To say this has been one heck of a summer would be an understatement! Almost 7 years of spay/neuter (and that is just our one organization) and yet the kittens continue to keep coming out of every nook and cranny. And, not only, being seen, but being very sick with upper respiratory infections and with serious injuries. These two, Star and Stripes, were two of 8 kittens found in one yard. Unfortunately, four of the kittens, who were very young, did not survive. Two of the older kittens (Jodie and Josie) are surviving beautifully with our friend Patricia B. and have had their blood tested. Now, the last (?) two have been rescued. One of the kittens may be related to Jodie and because they were found in the same yard, they had their blood tested and all was negative. Star and Stripes are doing well and are looking for a rescue organization/foster or adopters. They are shy but are safe and living with their rescuer Christine. Hank – Rescued from a Heat Treating Plant
8/10/17 – This little sweetie found his way into a heat-treating plant. The employees were feeding him but the temperatures in the plant could exceed 100 degrees. One of the employees contacted his sister for help. She took the kitten to a vet for a quick check up and brought him home but couldn’t keep him — that is when she contacted us. Of course, we couldn’t do much with placement, but we could offer medical assistance; it also sounded like the poor little guy had a botfly burrowed in him. Long story short – sure enough there was a botfly who started to come out before he could get to the vet. The caretaker was able to pull out the botfly and once again get the kitten’s would cleaned out. After going through all of this, the family who said they couldn’t keep him, fell in love and it looks like Hank has found his forever home. 4p1h will be taking care of vaccines, neutering, testing, and making sure his botfly wound is healing. Lucky – Lost a Family Twice
8/9/17 – Meet Lucky who was an owner surrender. He was rescued in December but now the family can no longer care for him. He is only 8 months old! 4p1h will take care of his medical including neutering and, we pray, he will soon find his way into a loving home. He is very friendly and loves to be loved. Twinkles, Jiminy Cricket, Geppetto, Cleo, and Figaro – Born in a Closet
8/8/17 – Two weeks ago I received an e-mail from a person we’ve assisted in the past and who cares for a cat community with our Board member, Dee G. Andra was made aware of a situation where 5 kittens were born in a person’s closet and the homeowner was threatening to throw out the 5-week old kittens. One kitten’s leg was deformed and fur was already missing because of him dragging the leg. Hard to believe, but this person didn’t even know for two weeks that the kittens had even been born. As those of you who follow us know, this past two weeks have been filled with numerous requests to help homeless kittens — many of whom were very sick. Many contacts were made without success until our two Board members, Dee and Angela, offered to help. I have to say that both members already have their own animals to care for and Dee and her husband have not only their pets but are fostering kittens they recently trapped. Nonetheless, these babies have been saved!!! Dee has Twinkles who is the little guy with a deformed/broken leg. Angela advised that one of the four she is fostering may also have a deformed/injured leg so both of them will be taken to the vet this week. Of course, everyone is going to be seen by the vet to be vaccinated and spayed/neutered when appropriate. The mother cat is being taken by Andra to be spayed. She has already spayed/neutered this person’s other cats. Please say a little prayer for this family. 4 Paws 1 Heart is so fortunate to have such caring Board members as well as supporters who make our support possible. Lydia – Left Behind by Her Owners
8/7/17 – Let’s try and start this week off on a happy note. Last week was probably the worst 4 paws 1 heart week in 7 years. This is sweet Lydia. She was left behind by her owners but fortunately, a very committed animal advocate came across her and contacted us. Lydia had a wound on her back and needed to be treated for fleas/parasites; fortunately, she was heart worm free! She was spayed and now — dada — she has been adopted. I’m so happy for Lydia. This is what it’s all about. ~ diana
Tucker, Hazel, Burke, Josie, and ChowChow – Found in a Garage with Upper Respiratory Infections
8/6/17 – The continuing effort to reduce the number of abandoned and stray animals — The key is to take action immediately. Depending on the environment, a female cat can go into heat as early as 4 months!! Once a female is allowed to reproduce the problem of unwanted cats escalates to an overwhelming level. “Introducing the Garage Babies! Tucker, Hazel, Burke, Josie, and ChowChow. These Fab feral 5 came from a garage where we are TNRing in our area. Over 2.5 weeks we were able to trap all the kittens, treat them for URI and or Gunky Eyes & begin socializing them which is going smashingly! They will see the vet Friday for their first series of shots, and checkup. I am estimating they are 8 weeks old, 2 girls, 3 boys- probably- LOL.
Thank you 4 Paws 1 Heart for providing their medical funding so they will be healthy and not have any kittens of their own! (BTW we did TNR their Mom)

Mac and Luna Find Their Forever Homes
8/6/17 – 4 Paws 1 Heart’s mission is: “Reduce the Number of Abandoned Animals by Funding Medical Treatment for Abandoned, Abused, and Stray Companion Animals”. Since August 18, 2010 we have paid $523,972 for over 4,000 animals. But, over the years we have evolved and recognized that there is also a need to assist independent/individual rescuers in the adoption process. Consequently, we offer a courtesy petfinder site (only available to 501c3 organizations) and the Friends of 4 Paws 1 Heart facebook page to all of those individuals who not only rescue an abandoned/abused animal but who also have committed to finding the best home. We are happy too say that over the past (almost) 7 years, 182 animals were adopted into great homes because of our combined efforts. This doesn’t include the many animals who found their forever homes with the rescuers or their friends/families. This is Mac and Luna — both recently adopted with the assistance of 4p1h. A huge thank you to our Board member, Cynthia Wojtowycz, who administers these sites and ensures each animal has the best “write up” and our friend, Lori White Stephens who rescued these animals, took them several times to the vet, and sought out the perfect homes. ~ diana
Tiny – Animal Cruelty
8/5/17 – And this is why so many in Animal Advocacy ‘strongly dislike’ people and the laws associated with animals! This 15-16 year old cat showed up at a 4p1h friend’s house — “she was covered in feces, was severely dehydrated, covered in fleas, only had a couple of teeth left, was starving, appeared to be hard of hearing, and had mats all over her that had to be cut off.” This poor animal had severe diarrhea and when we were contacted about her, we immediately authorized her to be seen at the emergency hospital. She was treated there and later seen by another vet to get a handle on the severe diarrhea. The very sweet, neglected cat was found to have a large mass and it is suspected that not only has she been suffering from IBS, but she may have a cancerous tumor. After the medical examination was completed, she was scanned for a microchip and it was discovered that this cat was in fact OWNED. The owner was contacted and she advised the veterinary technician that the cat had been thrown out because she was (my words) defecating all over the house; the person said that she “didn’t know if her husband wanted the cat”. The rescuer was willing to let this poor girl live out her potentially short life in her home. Over 24 hours later, the veterinary was contacted by the owners who said they wanted their cat back. All of us were wary because of what was originally said BUT there was nothing we could do. The owners called the police and accused the rescuer of stealing their cat. To make a long story short, the cat was returned to them and 4 Paws 1 Heart received no reimbursement for the medical expenses paid at an emergency hospital and a specialist veterinary. But more importantly, we felt the cat would just be thrown out again. In addition to all of this, as I was researching the medical expenses we paid, I found that this cat had actually been rescued by the same person in 2016 where we again were asked to pay for a vet visit because of severe diarrhea. At that time, the vet again found the microchip and contacted the owners and the cat was returned to them. Mysteriously the cat showed up once again, 9 months later, roaming the streets, very sick. Here she is the first time she was rescued and the second time she was rescued. Remember that according to current laws, animals are ‘property’ just as your TV and couch. Twinkles, Geppetto, Jiminy Cricket, Figaro, and Cleo – Born in a Closet; Owner Was Going to Throw Them Out
8/4/17 – We were contacted almost two weeks ago about the five kittens born in a person’s closet. Obviously, the person didn’t have her female spayed and either there was an intact male in the household or she allowed her intact female to roam the streets. Nonetheless, the owner threatened to throw all five kittens outside, including a little one with a deformed leg. Fortunately, she gave Andra (who heard of the situation) enough time to find a potential rescue/foster before throwing them out and now with the combined efforts of many people, these kittens will be treated medically with funds from 4 Paws 1 Heart and eventually placed in forever homes. The baby (Twinkles) 
with the deformed leg has been dragging it to the point where the fur has already rubbed off of the leg. We will have this kitten seen by a kitten specialist and then on to Dr. Kern Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Therapy for Pets to see what she recommends for the deformed leg. I will be fostering the baby girl with the deformed leg…she is very small and skinny so I think it’s good she is alone for a while. Thank you 4 Paws 1 Heart for taking care of their medical!
