10/17/17 – Dear Friends, please say a prayer for Dutch and if you possibly can, make a donation to help with his surgery. Dutch was rescued by the police from an abusive situation. His leg was broken at the femur and nothing had been done for over one month to get him any help. The owners surrendered Dutch to the police and he was given to a very kind person who had reported the abuse. When Dutch, who was in much pain, was taken to the vet by his rescuer, the doctor’s recommendation was to install a plate and pins at a cost of over $3,000. The rescuer had already paid for the x-rays and visit but could not afford the surgery; he was told to contact 4 Paws 1 Heart.
As many of you know, we have had many serious cases this summer and fall and could not afford the surgery either. I discussed getting a second opinion from one of our favorite doctors at Patterson Veterinary and the rescuer agreed even though our vet was on the other side of town.
Dutch was seen on Friday
Our doctor was not as confident that a plate and pins would help Dutch in that the break had occurred over one month ago. Another option was to amputate the leg, which is what was decided. The rescuer did not want to put Dutch through any more than necessary. The surgery, including Dutch’s neuter, is being done today. I will make sure to give an update.
If you can make a donation to help with Dutch, please use the paypal link on this page or on our website 4paws1heart.org, or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Thanks!! ~ diana

National Feral Cat Day – You Can Make A Difference
10/16/17 – Please consider making a donation in honor of Feral Cats Day. We have paid for many cats to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated this year. In several cases, the cats actually were not feral but more than likely abandoned by their owners or escaped from their homes. Every life matters to a caring society. Donations can be made by using the paypal link on this page, or on our website 4paws1heart.org, or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Please help us reduce the number of abandoned and abused animals. Thanks, diana
Honeydew – Found Emaciated and Walking the Streets
0/16/17 – Honeydew. She was found emaciated, walking the streets all alone. She appears to have been neglected and used for breeding by the look of her teats. She has several scars on her body. She is a little dirty in this photo, because it was taken shortly after she was found. We are guessing she is maybe 3 or 4 years old. She is scheduled to see one of our vets so that she can be spayed, vaccinated, and tested for heart worm (paws crossed she is healthy). She has a very sweet temperament and the finders will make sure she is healthy before they find her a forever home. Attempts were made to find her owner without success. From my experience, it is likely she was dumped when the ‘owners’ no longer had use for her. Please say a little prayer for Honeydew. And, please consider making a donation to help us in our mission to reduce the number of homeless animals by providing medical funding for them. Donations can be made through paypal on this page or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. Amelia – Found on the Side of the Road — Unable to Walk
10/15/17 – Happy Update!! I just wanted to share this happy update from Amelia’s rescuer AND official mom. You might remember that Amelia was found on the side of the road by Chelsea’s sister. She was in pretty bad shape and couldn’t walk. Of course, we approved to have Chelsea seen by one of our favorite vets at Patterson Veterinary Hospital. It was determined that Chelsea’s arm was broken and would require amputation. Well, here is the happy news:
“Amelia is doing so good! She is finally playing and enjoying her life for the first time. She is still skiddish and runs and hides when she hears anything or there is any sudden movement. She is getting more confident as she is learning how to move faster and build up her strength. I have pet stairs throughout my house for her and she is flying up and down them without any trouble.
The original home I had lined up for her fell through I’ve completely fallen in love with her and she has been such a huge part of my life since I suddenly lost my own cat the week before I found her. My other 2 cats just adore her – 1 of them has never gotten along with another animal until Amelia. If I am able to keep her myself I would really love to. Please let me know what I would need to do (paperwork, adoption fees, etc).
Chelsea & Amelia”
As the rescuer, there are no adoption fees or paperwork needed because we just want these loving, abandoned, abused, and stray cats to find their forever loving home which, obviously, Amelia has done. (Of course, we absolutely encourage adoption fees, applications, and home checks when it comes to outside adoptions. But when a rescuer takes out so much time to provide shelter, food, and transportations to and from vets, we know the love is already there. A huge thanks to Chelsea and we wish the entire family many happy years.
Tiny Tim – Found on the Streets with a Broken Spine
10/14/17 – A huge thank you to Maria and the employees of Cadillac Products in Roseville, MI for caring enough to save this little baby who couldn’t walk. Maria contacted me when Tiny Tim was brought home. At the time, the rescuers all thought her leg was broken. The great staff at Patterson, squeezed her in because she was in a lot of pain and after x rays were taken, it was determined that he spine was broken and that her colon was overflowing with feces. Tiny Tim’s prognosis was very poor and if he survived surgery for both conditions, he faced many months of recovery. We all decided to accept the doctor’s recommendation to humanely euthanize the suffering baby. These decisions are never easy and I continue to admire the many caring people who don’t turn their backs on the abandoned and abused. ~ diana
Luna – Rescued from a Severely Mentally Disabled Person
10/14/17 – Luna was rescued from a severely mentally disabled person who could not properly care for her. She appeared to be pregnant although she was just a kitten last December. She is very sweet and affectionate cat with yellow eyes. Her rescuer, Kathy, contacted us for assistance.
We approved Luna to be taken to the vet and, sure enough, she was pregnant and was found to be positive for feline leukemia. Although the rescuer did not plan to have one cat let alone 5, Luna had her babies. Everyone will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and everyone will be looking for their forever home. Although, feline leukemia should not be a death sentence, Luna needs to be with another positive cat or by herself. The babies will be tested when they are old enough. If anyone is interested in helping this loving family, please contact Kathy at: [email protected] . Here is Mama Luna, Celeste, Lucky, Jupiter, and Tennyson. ~ diana
Flux – Found Under a Car in Busy Parking Lot
10/13/17 – Flux was found under a car in a parking lot where the rescuer works. Fortunately, the finder is a groomer and was able to give the little guy flea baths but she still needed help getting him vaccinated and neutered. We were happy to make that happen and now Flux is no longer in a parking lot but in the loving hands of a loving family. ~ diana
Sunny and Luna – Found Outside of an Office Building
10/12/17 – Sunny and Luna – These little 8-9 week old kittens were found outside of an office building. The rescuer was willing to keep them but needed help getting them neutered/spayed, vaccinated, and tested. Our mission is to reduce the number of homeless animals by providing medical treatment. To this end, we paid the medical and now these babies have a permanent loving home. ~ diana
