PRAYERS FOR BLACK JACK

8/11/23 – Here is the e mail I received on August 7, 2023:

“My next door neighbor and I have been feeding and caring for some cats . On Saturday I had noticed that our sweet boy (my kids and I and neighbor can pet him ) had thrown up clear fluid in my yard and then he walked across the street and laid in the bushes and didn’t come . On Sunday morning I went and checked on him . He ran off but was stumbling, falling and looked like he was walking sideways . He took off to another neighbor’s deck . We tried to get him out but unsuccessful . This morning he was in my next door neighbor’s shelter since last night . He won’t eat or drink and is softly growling at us . He only is able to flip his body to get into a different position. He also has something going on with his eye. Both my next door neighbor and I don’t have the financial means to get him to a vet . I don’t want him suffering . It breaks my heart to see him like this, can you help?”

We were able to get Black Jack into one of our partner vets the same day. He had fluid in his abdomen so the doctor couldn’t get a clear picture of his organs and he wasn’t quite sure what was going on. Black Jack was given fluids and meds and was to return in 3 days for a follow up. Yesterday he was seen again by the doctor. He does show some signs of improvement but is still having issues opening his jaw (his jaws appeared to have been locked when he was found). The doctor thinks Black Jack may have consumed something toxic and will be seen again today by the doctor. We will continue our efforts to help Black Jack. – diana

I was trying to post a video but here is a pic instead . He was slowly walking to the food. – Jennifer

This was Black Jack at vet yesterday . This was a huge improvement for him . He has been unable to walk and his body was so stiff and contorted . Not sure what is exactly going on with him . Toxicity or trauma . The Dr today re-reviewed his X-rays . He believes he had trauma to his spine.

If it wasn’t for 4 Paws 1 Heart this sweet boy would never of had a chance. I can’t thank this organization enough. – Jennifer

MEET RYDER AND WUBBLES

8/11/23 – who will be seeing one of our great partner vets at Five Mile Animal Hospital to be fully vetted — tested, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and anything else needed. They were both born under the porch of their rescuer in Hamtramck, MI. Knowing the neighbor poisoned cats, she immediately brought them into her home. Having seen multiple dead cats in the alley behind her home, she was determined to save these two babies. Now they need to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and we are thankful we can help. – diana

LOVEY, TRAPPED IN A GARAGE, VETTED

8/10/23 – Lovey was ‘unknowingly’ trapped in a garage for a few months without food or water. She was emaciated, dehydrated, and had a wound on her leg. She was seen at Five Mile Animal Hospital and was found in pretty good condition after what she had been through. Here is her rescuer’s report:

“So our little Lovey is 8 or 9 years old. Her liver enzymes are high but could be from not eating Her veins were really weak and they couldn’t get enough blood for CBD but were able to check liver and kidneys – kidneys are good. Snap test was neg. She only weighs 4.2 lbs. They Gave her sub q’s. Her temp is normal, chest sounds good.

Liver numbers may come down as she starts to eat more they gave me a couple of cans of recovery food for her. I need to take her back for more bloodwork after she’s eating/drinking more but it looks a lot better then I thought, thank God and thank you Diana!! – Gail”

Lovey will return for a follow up visit but we are confident that Gail will make sure Lovey finds the purrfect home. – diana

TINY

8/8/23 – Just a little over a week ago, we received a request to help a kitten found on the street who appeared to be very sick, lethargic, and with mucus running from his eyes and face. We immediately authorized treatment at one of our great partner vets, Five Mile Animal Hospital, and Tiny was examined and treated. Well, today, I received an update about Tiny from his rescuer and now dad:

“Tinys doing great! Still a little ways to go but she’s come so far. You could literally see the life come back into her.

She was too sick for them to spay and do vaccines, in another week she will be done with antibiotics. We can’t thank you enough for helping her through this – Brian”

Of course, once Tiny is completely recovered, we will follow through with her test for fiv/felv, vaccines, and spay. She will then be good to live her life in a loving home. In the photo you can see the ‘bubbles of mucus” coming out of her nostrils and when she was rescued; the last photo is what was sent today. – diana

REST IN PEACE NOODLES

AKA Jack Frost/Blizzard. Forever in my heart.. Gina

The hardest part of rescuing is saying goodbye especially when they are one of the animals you really bonded with. December 2017, and three days before Christmas, this baby approximately 6 months old, was brought into my previous job after being found by a good samaritan. He was on the brink of death because he somehow wound up trapped in a garage in the dead of winter with no food, water, or an escape. There was nothing left to him other than fur and bones. He was frozen to the point his temperature and blood sugar did not register because they were to low for a thermometer to read. The shelter/animal control at the time was going to euthanize, so I asked to have him transferred into my care so he could be given a chance. 4 Paws 1 Heart was there to fund all of his medical needs and that night I brought him home. David Jenio and I kept him warm, fed, hydrated, and loved around the clock. It took several days for Jack Frost aka Blizzard to walk, regulate his temp, and swallow properly.

After many months we found him the perfect home with friends Ann Kist and Lou Kist. They loved him unconditionally and he knew it. His new name became Noodles.

Yesterday Ann brought him to our doctors because he wasn’t feeling well and declining fast. On ultrasound he had large masses throughout his intestinal area and at only 6 years old he was diagnosed with suspected intestinal lymphoma. It was a heartbreaking goodbye, but I was able to hold him one last time and tell him how much he meant to me. I’m glad to have been there at the beginning and at the end.. I gave him a kiss from Dave and his mom held him during his last moments. Thank you Ann and Lou for being the best kitty parents to Noodles. Rest peacefully sweet boy.. Forever in our hearts.. – Gina

BENNIE CARED FOR NOW NEEDS A HOME

8/7/23 – And, speaking of veterinary hospitals — our friends at Orion Animal Hospital contacted me to see if we could help a cat with a severe respiratory infection who was found under a car the morning of 7/22 and brought into the hospital by the rescuer. Bennie not only needed treatment for the infection first but also needed the ‘usual’ testing, vaccinations, and neuter. We took on the medical care and a staff member took on the responsibility of finding an adopter and fostering. Here is Bennie the morning he was saved and now after recovering. If you are interested in adopting this sweet boy, contact Courtney at Orion Animal Hospital. – diana

HUGE BACKUPS FOR CARE – BUT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ANY OF THE ANIMALS WE HAVE ALREADY HELPED AND POSTED HERE PLEASE CONTACT US

8/7/23 – There are so many cats and kittens on the streets needing to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. The over population has resulted in a huge back up in the many low-cost clinics like All About Animals, The Paws Clinic, Humane Society of St. Clair, and Comfort’s Place. This results in the population growing even greater in that a feline cat can become pregnant at just 4 months old and have 3 litters a year. Also, many ‘standard’ vets will not spay/neuter a cat earlier than 6 months and by then a female could have already had one litter and be on her way to having another. And, when we get a request to help with more than two cats with one person, it is necessary to try to get into a low-cost clinic because of cost. In just the past 2 weeks we’ve been working with rescuers involved in 3 ‘hoarding’ situations not to mention those mamas found on the streets with their babies. I’m proud of the relationship we have with our veterinary hospitals and thankful for the help they give us in doing their best to get the animals treated when we get a request for help. These 3 babies are recent rescues who were just spayed/neutered and vaccinated at The Paws Clinic in Taylor. Max (the black guy) started sneezing and coughing shortly after his visit so he will be going to Orion Animal Hospital for further treatment.

You can always contact me at: [email protected] if you are interested in any of the animals we help and post here and if that animal needs a home, I will get you together with the rescuer. Again, thank you to our many supporters; your donations truly make a difference in the lives of so many.
