12/17/19 – Sassy and Abigail were left behind when their owners left their apartment. Why so many people who rent apartments believe it’s ok to leave their pets behind is beyond me!! Fortunately, a caring person contacted our friend, Jo, and she found a foster. We were able to get the girls spayed, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and tested. If you are interested in these sweet girls, please contact Jo at: [email protected] – diaina

Bob and Simon – Two Very Special Needs Buddies
12/4/19 – Bob and Simon are two very special kitties who we helped in late 2017. Simon (white kitty) was thrown out during a snow storm resulting in 8″ of snow. I received a call from the son of a woman who had rescued Simon but was renting a room from a woman who kept throwing Simon outside because he would escape the rented room and sometimes urinate/defecate outside his room. The rescuer was at work during this snowstorm when the son sent 4p1h a message. Poor Simon was out in the snowstorm and there was no where for him to go. I contacted our friend, Jo, who jumped into action and with some coordination was able to rescue Simon and bring him to her home. Little did we know that Simon could not walk. We did everything we could to provide Simon therapy but he just was not progressing so today he lives a life of love and warmth in Jo’s home. Until this day, I cannot imagine how evil you would have to be to throw out a totally paralyzed animal into the snow with no way to fend for himself.
Bob was left behind by his owners; probably because of his diarrhea. His diarrhea was so bad when he was rescued that feces would just spill out of his little body. He also has asthma. Again, our good friend, Jo, rescued him and has given him a forever home knowing he would be difficult to adopt to another family. Bob was diagnosed with IBS but he has a loving, warm home and a great buddy in Simon. They are constantly seen cuddling together. In both cases, 4 Paws 1 Heart has continued to be committed to Bob and Simon because they are not adoptable but we appreciate that they’ve been giving a loving home with our friend and independent rescuer, Jo.
We could not do it without our Village and supporters. ~ diana

Diva – After Two Years, Her Owner No Longer Wanted Her and She Almost Died of Heartbreak
12/3/19 – It’s Giving Tuesday and long-time friends of 4p1h will be matching all donations up to $2,500 and will be giving us one week to meet that goal. Please help us so that we can continue to meet the needs of the homeless and the voiceless — those innocent souls, like Diva, who give us unconditional love, even when we, at times, turn our backs.
We posted Diva’s story two weeks ago. She was abandoned by her owner and returned to her rescuer after two years. She was in a deep state of depression which affected her liver because she would not eat. Since then, Diva had surgery to have a feeding tube inserted into her neck. She has be tube fed every 4 hours. Unfortunately, the amount of food and medication prescribed originally seemed to be causing some issues and we decided to have Diva seen by another doctor for a second opinion. That doctor reduced the amount of food and medication prescribed and took an ultra sound and did blood work to confirm the status of Diva’s liver. Diva will be on the feeding tube for the next six weeks and we will continue to satisfy her medical needs. The good news is that Diva now seems to be progressing and we all have our paws crossed that this sad little girl recovers fully and that her rescue mom can find Diva that purrfect home. Thank You in advance, diana.

Syrio – His Breeder Wanted to Euthanize Him Because of a Cleft Palate
10/29/19 – Dear Supporters, Syrio needs YOU. At just days old, Syrio was brought into a local veterinary clinic by his breeder. He was to be euthanized because he had a cleft palate and was no good to the breeder. Instead the staff had the breeder surrender Syrio to them and the licensed vet tech (LVT) called another one of her colleagues to see if she could take in this little guy. Amber, an LVT, with another partner veterinary clinic, took Syrio in. He could not eat on his own and she tube fed him for 6 weeks until he could eat on his own. It is now almost 5 months later and Syrio, at 4.5 lbs, is now in need of surgery. The surgery will cost between $2,000 and $2,500 and both doctors who have examined Syrio believe strongly that he needs the surgery. And this is why he NEEDS YOU.
My cousin and former Board member has offered to MATCH all donations in Syrio’s honor up to $1,000. Unfortunately, we have taken on many expensive commitments including another broken leg and heart worm, so if we are going to be able to help, it will have to be through this MATCH. Please, if you can, donate today. We will schedule Syrio to see the specialist as soon as we’ve raised enough money. Thank YOU in advance. – Diana

Sparky, Natasha, and Boris – Dumped in a Petsmart Parking Lot
10/23/19 – In early October, 7 cats were dumped in a Petsmart parking lot. One organization took 4 and our friend, Lori, took in 3 — Sparky, Natasha, and Boris. 4 Paws 1 covered all of their medical including spay/neuter, testing, vaccinations, flea/parasite treatment. Sparky has since been adopted but Boris and Natasha are still looking. If interested, contact Lori at: [email protected]
Please keep in mind that every ‘healthy’ cat we help costs a minimum of $150 to ensure they continue to be healthy and do not contribute to the over population of cats. Although we had a successful fundraiser last weekend, that money went out faster than it came in. If you can, please consider donating today so that we can continue to make a difference. Thank YOU ~ diana

October – RIP – Someone Shot Her in the Spine
10/7/19 – RIP October – She was about 5 months old and lived among other strays in a trailer park. Yesterday we were contacted by one of the kind people feeding the strays. October had showed up dragging her back legs and then went under a trailer huddled in a little ball. After removing the skirt of the trailer, one of the caretakers crawled under the trailer and was able to get October. Fortunately, Dr. Zalac of Orion Animal Hospital, was able to see October as soon as she got in. What was found was beyond disturbing. October had a bullet in her spine. Nothing could be done and October was humanely euthanized and we are so thankful that this sweet, innocent animal was no longer in pain and prey to humans and other animals. The rescuers feel very strongly that the neighbor of the trailer where October was found, shot her. He is already on record telling the trailer park management that “if they don’t get rid of the cats, he will”. The sheriff was notified and he agreed that the neighbor was the likely culprit but said nothing could be done without proof. The rescuers are very worried about the other cats in the park. The cruelty of humans is beyond our understanding. ~ diana

Smiley Smalls (aka Jane Doe) – We Assume She was Used as a Bait Dog and For Breeding, then Tortured
9/11/19 – Prayers and positive energy for this poor abused female. I will call her Jane Doe because she has been in the hands of far too many bad people. A couple of days ago I received a call from a long-time rescuer and friend about a dog needing medical attention. Unfortunately, at the time, our friend did not know the severity of Jane’s injuries. She was only told that Jane had been attacked by another dog and had injuries to her ear. Of course, I authorized the vet visit and yesterday, sweet Jane was operated on. I’ve only included photos that weren’t as graphic as others. They were sent to me by the vet but trust me when I say that her wounds were much greater than you can see here. She had several bite wounds to her head, one so great, the bite was into her scalp. She had three stab wounds, one slit was within an inch of her aorta. Her ear and side face was mangled and her stomach was laced with scars. Her teeth were either ground down, removed in some cases, or were damaged because, instead of having food to eat, she tried to eat rocks. While the doctor was trying to repair Jane, the staff was crying over thinking what this very sweet dog had gone through. Here is the very sad story of “Jane”.
She belonged to a woman who is now in prison for murder. Jane was kept outside the majority of the time and never had enough food. When the owner went to prison, Jane was in very bad physical health and the friend of the owner took her in and helped her get healthy again. But then the friend was told to give Jane to the ‘owner’s’ cousin. That cousin neglected/abused her and then gave her to someone else. This cycle kept up. Poor Jane went from place to place, each time with the owner’s demands and after each stay she would be returned in very poor physical condition to the friend. We suspect that Jane was used for breeding and possibly used as a bait dog. We do know that when she was eventually picked up by our rescue friends, Jane was kicked out of the way and then turned over to the rescuer in the horrible condition that was described.
Unfortunately, there are far too many ‘Janes’ in our communities being abused, used for dog fighting, or at the very least, neglected. The vet staff told me that although Jane has been to hell and back, she is one of the sweetest dogs they have met. She is happy, wagging her tail, and just wants to be petted. Without your donations, 4 Paws 1 Heart could not help all of these animals with their medical needs. We don’t know how much Jane’s surgery will cost and we will continue to work with her rescuer to make sure she gets all of the medical attention she needs. So, if you can afford a donation today, we would greatly appreciate it. A huge thank you also to the staff at Five Mile Animal Clinic, they are caring and just plain wonderful people. ~ diana

George, Leo, Ali, and Flower – Dumped on the Porch with Ringworm and Upper Respiratory Infections
9/4/19 – This has been the worst Spring/Summer for kittens/cats that I have seen since we began 4 Paws 1 Heart. The first 3 kittens, George, Leo, and Ali
were dumped on the porch of someone who lives near the Flint, MI area. The 4th kitten, Flower, was later discovered from the same litter. The rescuers were willing to find homes but could not afford the obvious medical need. We made arrangements for their medical visit and they were all found to have upper respiratory infections and ringworm. Everyone has been treated and they are doing great. 4 Paws 1 Heart will pay for their neuter/spay and vaccines when they are old enough because we don’t want anyone to have more babies. The rescuers fell in love with the litter and between them and other family members, all of the kittens have found their forever homes. ~ diana
