Hercules with Santa

HERCULES UPDATE from one of our favorite doctors, Dr. Tari Kern ~ diana

“Hello everyone!
Hope that you all enjoyed your Christmas festivities. I had a great holiday. I got to see Santa a few weeks ago, so I am sharing my photo today with all of you. There was a long line to see him, but it was worth it! I got to catch up with old friends and also met lots of new dogs and people while we waited. It seems that the humans get very busy at this time of year and spend lots of time in the kitchen cooking and eating. This usually means good things for me, so I can’t complain! We had lots of company on Christmas so I was sure to be on my best behavior. There were presents for me too – a new cushy orthopedic bed, a new squeaky toy and some special yummy treats from the bakery. I am enjoying the snow…boy what fun! I love to run through it and eat it too. My folks say that I am hard to see outside with all the white stuff on the ground, but it makes hide and seek more exciting. Hope you have the chance to play in the snow too.
Wishing you all a happy new year!
Hercules (and Dr. K)”

Little Vincenzo Update

Remember our little Vincenzo. He was rescued by people who were visiting down South and then surrendered because he had worms. I can’t believe this guy was laying on a blanket on our kitchen island not that long ago. How wonderful to know that he has found a family who loves him so much. Merry Christmas, “Vincenzo” and May God Bless NBS Animal Rescue and his new family. ~ diana

“Does anyone remember “Vincenzo” the puppy? He was saved by the wonderful ladies at 4 Paws 1 Heart and entrusted into our care as a puppy. This Christmas he is thankful for his wonderful family and the rescuers that got him there. What a handsome boy he has grown to be (and his parents say he is still growing). His new name is Sully.  ~ NBS Animal Rescue”

From our Friends at Misfit Angels Rescue:  Bruno is an 8-month old Pit/Lab/Short guy mix! He was found by a concerned citizen after being hit by a car. The ladies from 4 Paws 1 Heart took him on and donated all his vetting, Thank you 4 Paws 1 Heart! Bruno’s tail had to be amputated and his leg had some bad wounds also, but are healing well, with antibiotic and daily bandage change. He is high energy, but a very happy boy. Bruno gets along with kids, cats and dogs, big and small! ~ Misfit Angels Rescue

12/19/12  4 Paws 1 Heart is happy to provide additional medical dollars to our friends at Misfit Angels Rescue as they continue to care for Bruno and find him his forever home. ~ diana

Sweetpea Adopted!!!

An Update from our wonderful friends Rebecca Aikins, Aaron Fortin, and Jaime Wolfe, all from NBS Animal Rescue:

“WHOOT WHOOT!! SWEETPEA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!!! I REPEAT, SWEETPEA HAS FOUND A FANTASTIC FUR-EVER HOME!! WHOOT WHOOT!!

It’s a very special day for each and every person who had a hand in saving this special

fella from the misery he endured by his previous owner! From those who prayed for him to get well during his surgeries and illnesses, who “liked” and “shared” his updates, who sent him cards and presents along his road to recovery, and who helped encourage his care takers along the way – today we celebrate that Sweetpea has found a family who will treasure him for the rest of his life. From all of us at NBSAR we cannot thank our supporters enough for their constant positive thoughts, words of encouragement, and love that has been shown for Sweetpea – he really is a very special fella!

Sweetpea has found his fur-ever home with the amazing Kim and Ron Hogan! Kim and Ron worked with Sweetpea over a period of several intermittent days in order to help Sweetpea transition from his foster home and get used to his new environment. They patiently worked with him on his separation anxiety, sought out advice from Sweetpea’s awesome foster parents, learned sign language to communicate with him, and prepared their house so Sweetpea had a similar set up to the one he was used to in his foster home. Kim and Ron are committed to making sure Sweetpea is loved, cared for, adored, and cherished as a true member of their family.

We would like to give a huge Bark Out to our fantastic friends at 4 Paws 1 Heart, Gina and Diana, as well as the amazing staff at the Animal Urgent and Critical Care Center who so lovingly cared for Sweetpea’s medical needs. A huge Paws Up goes out to Sweetpea’s foster parents Stacy and Brett for all of their hard work in helping Sweetpea transition from foster homes and his fur-ever home – you did a wonderful job helping Sweetpea prepare for his fur-ever family and encouraged him to gain confidence in himself, to experience joy in playing with his foster sister Millie the Pug, to know how great chewing on bones are, and to know the love and gentle touch of kind humans.

From all of us at NBS Animal Rescue – we cannot begin to thank our friends and supporters enough for their kind words of encouragement and the unwavering support you have given Sweetpea during his road to recovery. We are so very blessed to have such caring and wonderful supporters!

Kim and Ron – we thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for welcoming Sweetpea into your family. We look forward to many many many happy updates and pictures of Sweetpea’s wonderful life with you both! Your genuine concern for what is best for Sweetpea and kindness in sending positive updates to Sweetpea’s concerned foster parents was very much appreciated. We wish you and Sweetpea the very happiest of lives together and look forward to seeing pictures as he continues to blossom and grow into a happy, healthy, well loved pup!

Happy Tails Sweetpea! ♥  ~ NBS Animal Rescue”

Hercules First Snowfall 2012

An update from Hercules…

Hi everyone! So much has happened since my last update. I got to play in a pile of raked leaves and then it snowed! I don’t know which was more fun. Maybe the snow – I can hide in it and it’s fun to eat and slide in too. Plus, I got to wear my new jacket. I met Santa last weekend and had my picture taken, which I will share it when it comes back. Most importantly, I got my certificate for graduating from Basic Obedience this week. The class was tough – especially the sitting still part! I just don’t see why sitting still for 2 minutes is so important to everyone, but I did it just to make them happy. I start my next class later this week. Hope that you are all having fun and we will catch up again soon.
Paws and kisses,
Hercules (and Dr. K)

Medical Dollars to Loveabull Paws Rescue

So many puppies were born this past summer and we continue to be thankful for all that our rescue friends do to save the moms and and their babies. Here’s 11 puppies born to 1 mom saved by our friends at Loveabull Paws Rescue. We are happy to send some medical dollars their way to help with all of the spaying and neutering and we thank them, as usual, for always helping us. ~ diana

Cookie Update

12/5/12  COOKIE Update: I spoke with Philip last night and he has talked with Cookie’s mom a few times. She is very anxious to meet us and is eternally grateful for our rescue. We think we will all be getting together Sunday; she also wants to see where her baby was found. I just want to say that it’s incidents such as this one which inspired Gina and I to start 4 Paws 1 Heart. This time we were the good samaritans bringing in the lost animal to the vet but every day and night there are good samaritans bringing in found and many times injured animals to veterinarians. Often, the staff will use their own money to pay for medical treatment. But, then what? What happens to the animal when the owner can’t be found or where there is no owner. Unfortunately, very often injured animals are euthanized because there is no one to pay for the treatment required and no where for the animal to go. And, that is where 4 Paws saw a need and we are thrilled and humbled that we have been able to build relationships with like-minded animal advocates/rescues and get the support of so many animal lovers all over. ~ diana

12/5/12

The Macomb County Sheriff Marine Division responded to our story. It’s good to know they were ready and willing to be there. We are very lucky to have them in our ‘backyard’. ~ diana
“Macomb County Sheriff Marine Division: It is a great story and good to hear that there are people that will go to great lengths to help another of Earth’s creatures. Not to make this about us, but just to make sure the information is available, the Marine Division will respond to help animals and in fact we were just about in front of your address when dispatch notified us that the dog was safe. We hope your good deed will come around full-circle someday, just like Cookie’s owner’s care for your grandparents”

Thank You Misfit Angels

First let me say that we love Misfit Angels and what they do and thank you, Jenna Preston, for giving us the chance to make such a wonderful difference in Dinah’s life. Our hearts swell with pride!. ~ diana

Diana, Gina and Lori….we just wanted to thank you for getting Dinah her start in Hydrotherapy! She just finished her package that was payed for by 4 Paws 1 Heart and we can’t thank you all enough. Her first session was at 9 weeks old and she is now 7 months old, 55lbs and strong as a horse!! Since she loves it (and her Lori) so much, this will be a lifelong activity for her and she would have never gotten to discover her love of swimming if it hadn’t been for you! Not only has it helped her physically, it has made her a very happy pittie and she looks forward to her sessions every week. I am also very happy to say that in the summer she will be starting dock diving lessons….you’ve helped create an aspiring handicapped Dock Diver who will continue to make us all proud and will be diving for 4 Paws before we know it! 🙂 ♥

Cookie Update

12/4/12  COOKIE Update: Cookie’s owner did pick her up last night at the Vet’s. The owner contacted my neighbor, Philip, who had left the telephone messages for her. Cookie had actually been missing for 11 days. She wants to meet all of us and see where we rescued Cookie. Tony had talked to Philip and had limited details. I’ll get more info later with photos (I hope). I just wanted everyone know that Cookie was safe with her mom.
