Odin – Adopted and a Happy Update

5/8/16 – Another Happy Update! Odin was brought into the emergency after being hit by a car. He was temporarily paralyzed and then taken in by Gina to recover. Gina and her fur family fostered Odin for almost one year, waiting for that right family. Well, the waiting paid off. Odin is much loved in his new forever home. We are so very happy for this very sweet boy! ~ dianaodin 5:5:16

Sherlock – A Happy Update

5/8/15 – It is always great to hear happy updates from those we’ve assisted. Sherlock basically adopted the family by going in and out of their ‘doggie’ door. He was limping and had two puncture wounds in his leg which was swollen. His jaw and tooth also appeared damaged. Prior to being rescued, Sherlock had been picked up by animal control, neutered, ear tipped, and placed back where he was found.

“We are so thankful for the families who will take in abandoned animals, like Sherlock, and give them loving homes. ~ diana

It will be 1 year Memorial weekend since Sherlock (right) adopted our family.. He and Tiger has become great friends.. He is the best present (stray).. I’m so glad he picked our home to be his forever home.. Thank you to 4 paws for his medical a year ago.. He is healthy and safe now… Joanie”Sherlock w:Tiger 57:16

Kate – Has Her Babies

5/7/16 – Have you ever had that moment when you wondered if your mom loved her pet more than she loved you???? Well, if you’ve experienced that, then you might want to honor your mom by making a donation to 4 Paws 1 Heart in her honor. You can make your donation through paypal by using the link on this page. Just let me know your mom’s name, and I will e-mail you a “Mother’s Day Card”. I will also post the honorees on Mother’s Day.

This is Kate. She was a pregnant mama trapped during a trap/neuter/release effort by our Board member, Dee. Here is Kate with her 4 babies. Human moms are a little luckier because, most times, they only have one baby at a time. ~ dianakate and her babies 5:7:16

Lil Stinkers (Basil, Sage, and Jasper) Left by Their Mom in a Flower Pot

5/6/16 – HONORING MOMS! Happy Mother’s Day Week-End from the Lil’ Stinkers. Unfortunately, after mama put her day-old babies in a safe flower pot at a Home Depot, she never returned so our good friend, Denise, raised them to be the healthy beauties they are today.

The Lil’ Stinkers thought that maybe our friends would like to honor their own moms by making a donation to 4 Paws 1 Heart. If you would like to do that, just let me know your mother’s name, and I will e-mail you a ‘mother’s day card’ so that you can present it to her on Sunday. I will also pay tribute to all of the moms honored in a Mother’s Day posting. Donations can be made through paypal on this page (the donations link) or on our website at 4paws1heart.org.lil stinkers -- 5:6:16 lil stinkers----5:6:16 llilstinkers5:6:16

Faith – Starting to Walk

5/6/16 Update on Faith: If you will remember, Faith was rescued from the street; her back legs were dragging behind her. We were contacted and, after our experience with Chance, we said yes! — we would help. Although Faith had some other medical issues (severe upper respiratory infection), she has worked hard with our great friend, Dr. Kern of Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation and her mom. Here is Faith’s latest update: ~ diana

“I still have a little cough so I’m still taking my inhailer twice a day and steriods every other day. I’m now actually jumping up onto Mommy’s bed and walking up the pet stairs with mommy’s help My balance is almost perfect. I still have some weakness on my rear right side but I’m not letting it stop me. Mommy stopped making her bed in the mornings so she can place all sorts of things under the blankets so that I can work on my balance by walking on uneven surfaces. I even started venturing out into the hallway. Mommy said I’m a work in progress ; -) Thank you Diana-4Paws 1Heart, Dr . Kern Pawsitive Steps and Dr. Torres.

Lion – Update After His Surgery

5/5/16 – Update on Lion: He was living outside as a ‘feral’. A kind woman fed him along with others. One day she noticed that he couldn’t use his back leg. She contacted us for help to trap him and to pay for him to be seen by a vet — she had been trying to get him for awhile. Although he was ‘friendly’ with her, it was difficult to tell whether Lion had been a lost/dumped pet or if he was truly feral. Our good friend, Debra B., was able to trap Lion and transport him to the vet. There it was found that his leg was broken and would need to be amputated; he was also found to be FIV positive. Not knowing whether Lion was domesticated or feral made our decision even harder. There was no way we would support placing a three-legged, FIV cat back out doors but we would also not let a cat with a broken leg, unable to defend himself, outside again. But after getting commitments from the caretaker and another friend in our Village, we decided to take a chance and go ahead with the amputation which would give Lion a second chance at a good life. Lion had his surgery on Tuesday of this week and here is the latest report from his temporary foster mom. If anyone is interested in fostering/adopting this boy, please contact Jo at [email protected] ~ Diana

“Lion is doing very well in his recovery. He’s still a little out of it but is getting around good. He is using the litter box and he moves around to the different beds I have. He’s a tough cookie. Thank you for helping him on a new journey in his life. He loves getting petted and being talked to. Poor guy probably hasn’t had any love in a long time if at all.-Jo”lion after surgery5:5:16

Phoenix (aka Asia) – One of the Lucky Cats Saved Where Over 30 Perished

5/4/16 – Unfortunately there were far more cats killed in the firebombing than originally thought. Because of the bravery of firefighters, seven cats and one dog was saved. One of the seven fortunate babies, found her way to our good friend, Denise Najera. Denise will be caring for Asia, who suffered smoke inhalation and was obviously traumatized, until she is well enough to be adopted. Here is a report from our Superhero, Chance, who will be helping his mom. Please say a few prayers for all of the fur babies who have been removed from the other house; our entire rescue village has been working hard to find placement for these lost souls. ~ diana

“Hello Team, sooo please meet Asia. Asia is our new medical foster that arrived this evening. Asia is an approximately 3yr old boy kitty who is one of only a handful of kittys who survived his home being firebombed. Over 20 kittys perished in this senseless act of violence in Detroit 😢 Asia suffered extensive smoke inhalation and also being drenched with fire hoses and although being revived by firefighters he was then left in a carrier over 24hrs. The vet says his lungs are hurt from the smoke and his throat is very sore. We are giving him antibiotics so infection doesn’t set into his lungs. We are trying to entice him to eat something. Mom says he seems to be in shock, we can’t even begin to imagine how he must be feeling. We are just going to love him up and do everything we can while he’s in our paws to let him know he’s safe and loved. When’s Asia is feeling better he will be needing a loving home. His caretaker was not in the home when the firebombing happened, but she has surrendered all the surviving kittys as she’s no longer able to care for them. Big Thankyou to everyone who stepped up for these poor babies by sharing, posting, texting, transporting to vets and fosters, and making room in their homes and hearts. Please keep Asia and all the surviving kittys in your prayers as they try to heal physically and emotionally and please share his story. Love Chance phoenix5:4:16house fire 5:4:16

Bailey – RIP Sweet Baby — At Least You Knew Love in the End

5/3/16 – It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell our friends that our sweet Bailey has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It was July, 2015 that we were contacted by Laurel asking if we could help. Laurel had seen an ‘ad’ which said that Bailey, a senior dog, was going to be surrendered to a shelter if no one else wanted her. We agreed to have Bailey seen by our veterinary and she was found to have been severely neglected and also found to have heart issues. There wasn’t much hope for Bailey to live much longer. But, Laurel decided that she would do everything she could to give Bailey the best life ever — even if it was short — and 4 Paws 1 Heart committed to taking care of Bailey’s medical needs for the rest of her life. Over the past eight months, Laurel and 4p1h has kept their commitment to this sweetheart. We are saddened by her passing but thankful that we could be a part of giving her the best time ever for the last days of her life.bailey53!6bailey--5:3:16 bailey5:3:16

Lion – Hurt on the Streets and Needed a Leg Amputated

5/3/16 – Meet Lion. This handsome boy has been living outside and cared for by a very kind lady who took a strong interest in him. She noticed a few weeks ago that Lion couldn’t use one of his legs and contacted us for help. Once again we went to our Village of friends, and Lion was eventually trapped and taken to the veterinary, complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart. It was determined that Lion has a broken leg where the bones had already started to improperly fuse and he was found to be FIV positive. Although FIV should not be a death sentence, the existence of the disease always makes it more difficult for a cat to be adopted. The options for Lion was to amputate the leg (only under the condition that he become an indoor-only cat); or, to humanely euthanize him because we would not support placing a three-legged, cat outdoors to become easy prey for others. The caretaker has decided to do whatever is necessary to keep this boy in and two others have committed to helping him find a permanent home. 4 Paws 1 Heart will be paying to have Lion’s leg amputated this morning. Please say a prayer and send some positive energy to this little guy. Remember that it is your donations that change lives. Donations can be made through paypal on this page or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. 99.9% of all donations go directly to the medical treatment of abandoned and abused animals. Thanks, Diana

Kittens with Severe Upper Respiratory Infections are Saved

5/2/16 – I received a call from our great friends at the Advanced Animal Emergency. A very caring man had rescued 2 kittens with upper respiratory infections. He said there were two more and may need help in trapping them. The wonderful 4 Paws 1 Heart Village once again stepped up to the plate. 4p1h is taking care of the medical, our friend Patricia Brown took in the babies, and our cat trapper extraordinaire, Debra Berolatti, trapped the third and will be working on the last one. Here is a report from Patricia: ~ diana

“Here are the new arrivals! Thanks Debra Berolatti for getting them here safe and sound. Thanks 4paws1heart for taking them under your wings. So excited I could finally foster some babies! We do have a slight URI going on, but we have already had our meds, eaten, been weighed. The buff and white kitty is 13.7 ounces, the buff with white feet is 14.6 and the solid buff baby is 15 ounces, so figure just under 4 weeks old.Kittens from AAE4:28:16Kittens from AAEw:patricia Brown
