8/19/16 – Before and After pic’s…it’s a miracle that he survived this injury at only 2 days old. Please help us now help him with his final surgery.
Ali has major scars from his terrible injury, but the enormous wound has healed. He also lost 2 toes on the opposite foot. I’ve had him for over 12 weeks now, and he is more than ready for a forever home. BUT. In the very near future, Ali needs a consultation and a surgical procedure at Michigan State Veterinary Hospital. He will be seeing the specialist Dr. Stanley who is AMAZING with these types of cases. She took care of our “Sommerset”. Ali has tension in the area of the scar tissue, and as he gets bigger there is more tension. We are in need of donations for his upcoming care which will probably be about $1000 or more. Earl – No One Knows Why His Back Legs are Paralyzed
8/18/16 – As we enter our 7th year I want to introduce our friends to Earl and another phenomenal good Samaritan. A homeowner looked out her back door and saw this little ‘thing’ trying to move across her lawn. The little ‘thing’ was a kitten with two paralyzed back legs. No one knows how or why but the rescuer decided quickly that Earl would become a permanent family member. Earl has been taken to a chiropractor by his new mom and she has worked diligently putting Earl through exercises and massages. 4 Paws 1 Heart learned of Earl and decided that, if wanted, we would ask our good friend, Dr. Kern, to also assess Earl. Earl is loving life, even with his disability. Mom keeps him in a ‘onesy’ and takes care of his every need. There is no doubt that he is a little doll. We will keep you posted. Please keep all paws crossed and just remember that without your support and donations, little guys like Earl would be euthanized in shelters or die horrible deaths on the street. ~ diana
Gilbert – Another Victim of a Hit and Run
8/18/16 – HAPPY 6TH ANNIVERSARY to 4 Paws 1 Heart!!! What better way is there to start our seventh year of helping the abandoned, stray, and abused but by making a donation in honor of one of your furry family members or one of the many animals we’ve helped over the past 6 years. Tony and I will start by making a donation in honor of Gilbert.
Gilbert was hit by a car and suffered a broken leg. Thankfully, a good Samaritan and a caring veterinary staff (Cahilll Veterinary) decided they would do whatever it took to get this sweet boy help. 4 Paws 1 Heart helped with his medical treatment and the doctor believes his prognosis is good. I picked Gilbert to honor because I thought he looked like me when I came out of recovery after getting a hip replacement. Here he is under pain medication waiting to be treated. Everyone loves this guy and told me he is a real sweetheart. Sarah ([email protected]) will be looking for his purrfect forever home.

Puppy With the Parvo Virus is the Lone Survivor from a Litter of 3
8/17/16 – As with so many of our rescue friends this past summer, A Hopeful Heart had three puppies with the parvo virus. We were happy to help them with some medical dollars. This little guy turned the corner and was in recovery. A Hopeful Heart has always been such a great friend, always willing to help our friends with cat adoptions. Without each other, we could not accomplish what we do. ~ diana
Blackie – Very Sick, He Was Found in the Middle of the Street
8/16/16 – Meet Blackie, a sweet 4-week old kitten found in the middle of the street. I received a frantic call for help from a person we recently helped. She had just rescued a mom and four kittens. Blackie had runny eyes, white gums, and was totally infested with fleas. Debbie (the rescuer) gave Blackie a bath with Dawn soap and the water was just bloody from the flea infestation. Can you imagine if he was left on the street any longer?
Unfortunately, Debbie did not have transportation but we felt that Blackie needed to get to a veterinarian asap. I put out a call to our Village and our good friend, Rachel G., stepped up. Blackie was picked up and within 30 minutes was at one of our favorite veterinary hospitals (Patterson) and being treated. Blackie was given medicine for an upper respiratory infection. He was anemic from the flea medication but will recover fully. When Blackie is no longer contagious, he will be allowed to be with the recently rescued mom and her kittens. Another life saved because of people who care, willing to work together. ~ diana
T-Bone – His Suffering Is Over – RIP Sweet Boy
8/15/16 – R.I.P. Sweet T-Bone
It was only 9 days ago that I received a message from one of our followers (Amanda) who needed help with a 14 year old that she justI took in. T-Bone’s owner was going to put him down or drop him off at kill shelter. Amanda couldn’t stand the thought of this senior cat being thrown away like trash because his family didn’t have the “time to deal with him”. Amanda told me that T-Bone is very skinny, throws up and doesn’t always urinate in his litter box. We decided that he deserved a chance to see a veterinarian and be treated if possible.
T-Bone was taken to the veterinary, examined, and tested. It was determined that he did suffer from a hyper thyroid and possibly kidney and/or heart disease. He was put on medication and Amanda and her family decided he would stay with them as long as he needed. Unfortunately, T-Bone took a turn for the worse, stopped eating, and appeared to be in pain. On Saturday, it was decided to end his suffering and allow him to pass over the rainbow bridge.
As hard as these decisions are to make, we must always find comfort in the fact that at least this innocent creature died knowing love and did not die alone, suffering on the street or in the coldness of a shelter environment. ~ diana
Kittens – Living Under a Mobile Home Park, Emaciated and Flea Ridden
8/13/16 – This past Wednesday I received an e-mail regarding four kittens living under the deck of an elderly couple’s home, The couple was unable to get them and had been feeding them water and crackers. I hate hearing about any animals fending for themselves on the streets but to hear about kittens or puppies, well……. So, I contacted a couple of our trapping and independent rescue friends and they jumped into action. Debra B. went to the home that evening and trapped all four of the kittens and our friend, Jo, contacted another friend, Missy, who agreed to take them in. The kittens were actually younger than was thought — 3 weeks old. They were very thin and two already had definite upper respiratory infections. Thankfully, everybody is safe and cozy and medically treated complements of 4 Paws 1 Heart and our generous donors. Anyone interested in these cuties (Arthur, Tails, Lilac, and Onyx) should contact Missy at [email protected] although they won’t be available for a little while. Cocoa – Locked in a Closet and Only Taken Out to be Beaten
8/12/16 – We are less than a week away from our anniversary when we will be entering our 7th year of making miracles happen for the abandoned and abused. Although you’ve seen the myriad of cats and kittens we’ve been helping this year, if you know 4 Paws 1 Heart, you know we don’t discriminate. It just seems that the population of unwanted and sick cats and kittens have been greater than that for dogs. But, having said that, I would like you to meet Cocoa and ask you to say a little prayer that the rest of her life will be much better.
Cocoa had been abused by her original owners. They kept her locked in a closet and the man only brought her out for beatings. She is now obviously terrified of men. The person who had her afterward recently became homeless and left Cocoa with her grandfather; he wants the dog gone NOW. Consequently, there was a danger that Cocoa would be returned to the the original owner who used to beat her.
A very caring couple who have rescued several dogs and who we’ve helped with medical bills, including heart worm, contacted us for help. They will be taking over responsibility for Cocoa and have actually found a safe and loving home for her out of State once we have had her spayed, vaccinated, and tested. All of this will be done, and God willing, Cocoa will be on her way to a life of love.
Tabatha – May You Rest in Peace
8/11/16 – It is never easy to make this decision and I can’t express how much I admire a rescuer who puts his/her emotions to the side and puts the good of the animal first. Patricia Brown and her daughter work tirelessly for not only the adoptables but also the Ferals. I am humbled by the caring people who I have had the good fortune of meeting and working with along this journey. RIP sweet Tabatha. You are no longer in pain. Thank You to Patricia B., her rescuer, for loving her in her final days.

I am sorry to say the outcome is not what I had wished for. It was discovered through x-rays that she 1..had a very small heart, 2..she had a large obstruction or mass in her stomach, possible cancer, we will never know, and 3…her intestines were extremely enlarged, again with some kind of blockage and she only weighed 4 1/2 pounds. After a lot of consultation and looking at the outcome realistically, going through exploratory surgery alone was a risk. I do know she was in pain when I had her. So I made the decision to let her Cross the Rainbow Bridge, but not without me being with her the whole time. I loved her, I held her and I kissed her and told her that my own Tabatha was waiting for her. Rescue is not for the faint of heart. My heart has been broken many times in just this past month. But to end ones suffering is a far better deed than to try to keep a loved one in pain, just because it makes you feel better. RIP Tabatha. I loved you the short time I had you with me.
