Meet Tyler

5/13/13 Meet Tyler — He is a really nice Miniature Pincher that was hit by a car in Eastpointe about 11pm tonight (5/12/13). His leg is badly broken and the pelvis is also broken in 2-3 areas. We made sure he was stabilized and medicated and not in pain while I tried to find his owner.I posted a photo and the story on For the Love of Louie and the owner responded. It turns out that the owner had just adopted Tyler a week ago. He had seen him at the ‘pet store’ at Gibraltar and purchased him just to save him. It is unknown how this pup escaped from the yard he was in. The owner decided to surrender Tyler to 4 paws 1 heart because his main concern was giving Tyler the care he required.

4 Paws 1 Heart will continue to cover the needed medical treatment and then Tyler will be placed in a home that is the perfect fit for his long-term needs. It is always difficult when something like this happens, but I’m a believer that everything happens for a reason. Thank you all for sharing his story on For the Love of Louie and many thanks to Leah who created the page for lost and found animals. If there are any questions about Tyler I can be reached at [email protected] I also want to clarify that Tyler is NOT suffering. He is hospitalized and supported by veterinary professionals. His injuries are fixable and we are willing to give him a chance to live a long happy life by paying for his surgery). Our group is here to give animals like Tyler, “claimed or not claimed”, a second chance by paying medical bills and making sure he is placed with the best rescue to help his find his forever, loving home. As always, donations are always welcome because it is the only way we can continue to help with animals like Tyler and Scruffy. ~ gina

Tyler Update< Tonight Tyler was doing well recovering from the major surgery that took place this early afternoon. His femur was amputated due to the extent of his injuries, but Tyler is a strong boy who has the will to move forward. We all realize that accidents happen but too many preventable injuries are costing the life if not permanent damage long term for the pet. Please.. Neuter your pet so that they are less likely to run off or supervise when not home by putting them in a safe environment. ~ gina
5/19/13: Our sweet little Tyler is waking up from another anesthetic procedure that needed to be done tonight because he decided to try and remove some of his stitches. Not to worry he is all patched up again and full of energy! ~ gina

Another Furry Friend

Another little furry friend in need of some TLC! He might just end up being my neighborhood buddy once he is ready to fend for himself! So far he is enjoying the warmth and comfort of the “Gina Inn” along with some very yummy kitten formula that he just can’t get enough of! Paws crossed he continues to make a speedy recovery:) Gina…

Scruffy On His Way Home From the Hospital

Couldn’t wait — Scruffy is now with Gina!! He had his surgery yesterday afternoon and didn’t get out of recovery until after 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, I was out all evening and although I called and learned he was doing good, I didn’t have the opportunity to post anything. The bottom line is that a plate was put into his leg and amputation was not needed. This poor little guy has been through so much in just a week and around so many strangers. He did seem a little afraid of Tony — he may have been abused by a male. Nonetheless, he is safe, happy, and under the care of Gina. We will be reporting sometime over the next couple of days the name of the rescue who will be responsible for finding his forever home. We just need to confirm everything. I’ll post more photos later. I’m just so thrilled he is home. ~ diana

R.I.P. Beloved Emma Snow

May 8, 2013, Our dear Emma had to be humanely euthanized last night to end her misery. Her immune systems was shutting down and there was nothing more that we could do to help her. She was in the arms of her very special foster mom and board member, Cynthia Wojtowycz, and Gina. May she rest in peace – no longer suffering – and running with all of dear friends who have gone before us. ~ diana

Scruffy – A Bone Plate is needed

Scruffy Update 3:21 p.m. 5/9/13: I just spoke with the doctor. A special bone plate had to be ordered to the surgery, unfortunately, has been postponed until tomorrow. They do not think that this is going to affect his keeping his leg. The doctor said he will be able to keep his leg; they just didn’t have the proper measurements for the plate he requires. For now, Scruffy is eating, drinking and doing great (under the present conditions). ~ gina

Sprout Found in Detroit

5/3/13  4 Paws 1 Heart will be sending medical dollars to help this sweet girl. How could she get to this point without someone stepping up to help her. Thank You, A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue for saving this sweetheart. ~ diana
This was our emergency rescue this evening and is still going on. Introducing Sprout! She was found eating out of a garbage can in Detroit. She is severely emaciated, has horrible skin/mange and is literally on the brink of death she weighs in at a mere 20 pounds and should be around 50. We have never seen a dog this skinny and still alive in all of our years in rescue. Donations will be needed to help out this beautiful baby, as we are already financially struggling as it is, we couldn’t turn our back on her. Despite her mistreatment by people and neglect all she wants to do is snuggle up and be loved. She even walked away from some food to be loved on. Please help Sprout, she is not out of the woods yet. Once she is stable she will need a foster home to recover in. A big thanks to our friends and the staff at emergency veterinary hospital in Madison heights for reaching out for this baby girl.

Charlie Before and After

5/8/13: An Update about our little Parvo Puppy, Charlie, from our good friend Anne-Marie Wilk I put Charlie’s photo in a “before and after” so you could see how he’s grown. ~ diana”Because it can never be said enough, how wonderful andamazing Gina DeLuca and Diana Rascano of 4 Paws 1 Heart are! Here are a couple of updated pics of puppy Charlie, the former Parvo pup that you helped get healthy. I don’t know who is happier, Charlie for the wonderful family that he is now a part of, or his dad, who takes him everywhere with him. These guys are best buds! You didn’t just save Charlie’s life, you gave his family a wonderful gift. You ladies are awesome!”

Meet Scruffy

May 7, 2013 – Yesterday a senior gentleman witnessed this dog being hit by a car in Detroit. He found the owners and they verbally said they did not want the dog, and according to the elderly man nor did they show any concern for their dog. Instead, they said to the man “you want him take him”. So he took the pup home and called for help. I offered him the option to bring the dog to me and “4 paws 1 heart” would have him examined and medically cared for. Turns out the rear Femur is badly broken. We are looking into surgery options at this time. I’ll keep you updated. We are calling him Scruffy. He smells badly and he is matted and un-neutered. Doesn’t appear that he had any veterinary care. We are going to wait until his leg is assessed before we have him groomed. But, rest assured, his life will be better from here on out. Although this kind gentleman made a generous donation to 4 Paws 1 Heart, the medical bills to get this sweetheart all fixed up will be quite significant. ~ giana

Congrats to Missy

5/7/13 – A report from our good friends at NBS regarding our little Missi ~ diana

“MORE HAPPY NEWS!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO MISSY who found her fur-ever home with the fantastic Giannosa Family!!

Missy came to NBS Animal Rescue from our very good friends at 4 Paws 1 Heart. Missy was hit by a car and her owners could not afford to treat her extensive injuries so 4 Paws 1 Heart offered to treat Missy’s injuries and give her a second chance at a healthy happy life. Missy had to have her eyeball removed the day after the accident, her bottom jaw wired together, and had some trauma to her hind end as a result of the car accident. The amazingly awesome Gina took care of this sweet baby day and night as she recovered from her surgeries.

Once Missy was well enough to leave the ER vet hospital, she came into one of our experienced medical foster homes and spent several weeks recovering from her medical concerns and learning how to function with limited vision. It was while Missy was recovering from her injuries from the accident that Tina Giannosa contacted NBS Animal Rescue about making Missy a part of their family. Missy’s foster parents were so very excited to introduce her to the Giannosa family as in the weeks since her initial surgery Missy had started to blossom into a playful, happy, energetic, loving little girl.

The Giannosa Family was so incredibly welcoming to Missy and to our volunteers! Both of Missy’s human siblings took extra special care to move slowly around her at first and to avoid petting her surgical site on the right side of her face. They had toys already for her to chase, a soft bed for her to sleep on, and were smitten by the little ball of white fur who romped around their house and crawled in their laps for ear scratches and belly rubs!

Missy wasted no time making herself at home! She found the water bowl, checked out all of the rooms in the house, went on a walk in the yard behind her house, whipped around squeaky toys, chased tennis balls, and really turned on the charm for her new family. Our volunteers said it was such a heartwarming experience to see Missy so happy and comfortable with such gentle, caring, and compassionate people.

Despite the best of care, Missy required a second surgery on her eye to correct an issue with her tear duct. The Giannosa Family dilligently kept in contact with Missy’s foster mom and dad to make sure she was healing properly and doing well counting the days until she could come and live at their house. It was all smiles and tail waggs when Missy was reunited with the Giannosa Family after she had healed!!

We’re happy to share the following e-mail we recently received from Tina as Missy’s trial adoption comes to a close:

“As for having Missy in our home, she is pure joy! When I saw her story i couldn’t pass her up. She deserved a good life and I believe we where the family to give it to her. She is perfect in our eyes. She loves to cuddle on the couch and likes to sit on anyones lap. She runs laps when we get home from being out and makes us laugh when she “kills” her stuffed animal.

My son was the choosen one that she sleeps with and rightfully so as he has also overcome a rough beginning being that he was born 1lb 10oz. We didnt give up on him and wanted the same for her. Thank you so much for doing what you do, i would love to volunteer for any of your events. You are special people.

Sincerely,
The Giannosa Family”

We can’t begin to thank our friends at 4 Paws 1 Heart for saving her life, our friends at Bingo Pet Salon for being so gentle and having so much patience with her for grooming, and especially the Giannosa Family for opening their hearts and home to Missy.

Welcome to the NBS Family Giannosa Family! Happy Tails Missy – we look forward to many happy updates, pictures, and stories! — with Diana Rascano and Gina DeLuca.”
