Sherbert – RIP Sweet Baby – FIP is a Merciless Disease

2/18/17 – RIP Sweet little Sherbert. Sherbert lived in a well-cared-for colony but always liked to snuggle in the straw. She also had a best kitty friend who always tried to protect her by laying on her. Consequently, the caretaker rarely was able to see Sherbert in full form. Last week the caretaker saw that Sherbert had lost a considerable amount of weight which was worrisome because she was only 5 pounds when she was originally trapped, neutered and returned with the help of 4p1h. Sherbert was taken into the home and we were contacted. Although she ate ravenously, she had severe diarrhea and was vomiting. Again, with the financial help of 4p1h, Sherbert was taken to a veterinary where it was found that poor baby Sherbert had FIP (seepetmd.com/search?Q=fip). To stop her suffering, the humane decision was made to let Sherbert cross the Rainbow Bridge. Run Free sweet Sherbert and thank you to her caretakers, Patricia and Bree, for giving her so much love and care.

Smokey – Rescued from a Feral Cat Colony Suffering from Entropion

2/17/16 – Meet Smokey. Last week he showed up in a feral colony. And, like so often happens, he turned out to be very domesticated. In fact this is the third call for help in the past week where a domesticated cat turned up in a feral colony. He was very emaciated (domesticated cats no longer have the hunt drive nor can they fend for themselves amongst feral cats), and had what appeared to be an upper respiratory infection. Smokey was taken to the vet yesterday and to my surprise, the doctor called me to tell me that Smokey had Entropion of the eye. In the six years I have been doing this, I have never come across a cat with Entropion* (see previous post on Diesel*). But, in researching the condition on Pet M.D. I saw that, yes, it is a condition that cats can also suffer from. Of course, we authorized the surgery and hope that little Smokey will be on his way to a painless new life with the rescuer’s daughter. Smokey will also be receiving the ‘usual’ medical treatment which always includes neutering or spaying. If you find yourself with a little extra money, please consider donating to 4 Paws 1 Heart through the donate button on this page or through mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. At this time we have or will have 3 dogs receiving heart worm treatment and two surgeries for Entropion. And, as we all know, the need never ends. ~ dianasmokey w:cindy fontana 2:14:17

Diesel – Kept Chained on a Porch 24/7

2/16/17 – Meet Diesel. Yesterday he had much needed surgery for an eye condition called Entropion. Entropion is a genetic condition in which a portion of the eyelid is inverted causing eyelashes to irritate the eye. This condition is not only painful but can result in blindness. Here is Diesel’s very sad story with a happy beginning. ~ diana

“Hello Diana
My name is Tami I have had the honor to foster Diesel for the last couple weeks. Diesel was brought to our attention when a woman’s mother was begging for someone to do a welfare check on a neighbor’s dog. She said he was left outside all the time and was chained to a porch and hardly fed and his eyes were so infected he could hardly open them. I live close by so I contacted the rescue I work with and said I would go get him to get him out of the cold.
When I got to the house he was inside and the man was very relieved to know he was being taken. They were being evicted and were unable to take him with them.
Diesel was all too willing to jump in the car with me and was sweet as could be. Diesel made it in the house and was sooo scared before even meeting my dogs that he nervously urinated all over himself. After getting in and getting comfortable he met all of my dogs 1 by one and they let him in no problem. He feels the need to be on you at all times. He was supposedly destructive due to separation anxiety. I personally have not seen that aside from stuffed animals if he can get them he will. He loves kids he is not aggressive just playful. He is learning that little children are not toys to play with. I had to have my sister keep him one day when I first brought him home and she has several cats and 1 dog. She had no issues with him and the cats aside from being very curious but no aggression what diesel w:tami white 2:13:17so ever. Every day that goes by he becomes more and more comfortable being on his own. He now will even sleep on the couch instead of on me in my bed.
His eyes were never actually infected although to someone who does not know about his eye condition that is what it would appear to be. He was thin with poor skin condition but that is correcting itself with proper nutrition and care. He is an amazingly gentle dog for the lack of attention he seemed to have received previously. He is so gentle and patient for having been so neglected. He was heart worm negative and came already neutered.
Thank you so very much for your offer to pay for his surgery I can only imagine how wonderful it will be for him to be pain free for the first time in his life very soon. Thank you again from all of us and mostly from Diesel – Tami”

Millie – Neglected Far Too Long – Her Tail Needed to be Amputated

2/15/17 – This little sweetie was taken in by Angels for Animals. They were told she was a kitten but it turned out she was just very small from being neglected for too long. She had a severe upper respiratory infection, swollen legs and part of her tail was dead. She spent a few days at the vet but then the rest of her tail was obviously ‘dying’ and needed to be amputated. She was operated on February 13 and her prognosis is great. 4 Paws 1 Heart was thankful that we were called on to help beautiful Millie. ~ dianamillie 2:14:17

Josephine – Pregnant and Thrown Out of Her Home – No Longer Wanted

2/12/17 – Meet Josephine. This sweet pregnant cat was thrown out of her home along with a few other cats. Her family claimed they were no longer wanted because “they were all allergic”. Our friend, Jo A., took them in and found them fosters and, of course, 4 Paws 1 Heart will be taking care of their medical needs. We couldn’t keep saying yes to all of these animals in need if it weren’t for our supporters. Thank You. ~ dianajosephine w:jo addington 2:3:17

Ginger and Sonny – Their Families Moved and Left Them Behind

2/11/18 – Meet Ginger and Sonny. They are 7 month old sweeties whose family moved and threw them outside to fend for themselves. They were rescued from the same trailer park that a couple of other cats and a dog were found. I don’t honestly understand the cruelty of people but thank God there are people who will not turn their back. 4 Paws 1 Heart will be taking care of all of their medical needs and if anyone is interested in giving them a forever, loving home, please contact Jo at: [email protected] ~ dianaginger 2:11:17sonny 2:11:17

Ali (aka Bentley) Another Happy Update

2/10/17 – Ali (now Bentley)was caught in a recliner — he was just a couple of days old. He endured several surgeries but thrived under Gina’s love and care. Look at him today. If you want to follow his story from day one, check out our website and search under ‘Ali’. Thank you to his wonderful mom for sharing this with us. – Diana

“Just thought we would pop in and let all of Bentleys (Ali) supporters know just how happy our little family is! He makes me laugh when I want to be mad at him, he annoys me when we sleep because he hogs the bed yet he tucks his entire face into my neck and hugs me with his arms I find myself kissing his gentle face till I’m asleep. He has absolutely no idea how strong he is, so when he launches across the room and lands on top of me I want to scream but then we lock eyes and I notice his wrinkled forehead and raised eyebrows and just melt. I thank him every single day for choosing me to be his mommy. I love my baby boy to the moon and back 💗💗💗💗 He truly completes me.- Emily”ali:bentlley 2:10:17
