Tara – Rescued Just Days Before Giving Birth to Four Kittens

3/17/17 – Tara was rescued from the street just days before she had 4 kittens. Again, we were contacted by our rescue friends and asked to provide medical for Tara pre and post natal, and her babies after they were born and old enough. She is now doing great and has, in fact, taken on one little abandoned kitten who needed a mother. We continue to thank everyone involved in all of the life saving we have been able to accomplish over the past 6 years. Please, if you find an animal on the street, don’t turn your back. If you can’t pay for medical or keep the animal, contact us. As long as we have the funds and you are in Michigan, we will be there for you. I can’t always guarantee we can help with homing but we will use our resources to help. Donations are not just welcome but essential and can be made through the donations link on this page, by mail, P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. or our website: 4paws1heart.org – thanks, diana

Jinxy – Living Outside, He was Injured in a Fight

3/16/17 – It was in early February that we got a call for help from a supporter of 4 Paws 1 Heart. A cat he had been feeding for a few months had shown up on his porch, injured. He thought the cat had been under a care or gotten into a bad fight. The little guy was dirty and had blood around his eye/nose area. Unfortunately, our friend did not have a trap. It was Superbowl Sunday, when this caring man drove all the way from Lansing, MI to St. Clair Shores, MI (about 90+ minutes) to borrow our trap and get advice from our friend, Master Trapper Debra B., and at least get Jinxy to a vet. After a bit, he was able to trap him and have him examined by a local vet. After about two weeks, Jinxy was transported to Debra where he was taken in by our friends at A Hopeful Heart Animal Rescue. We in turn provided medical dollars for Jinxy’s neutering and future medical needs. We are so very thankful when we are able to make a difference in not only our animal lives but in the lives of people who care. ~ dianajinxy w:randy cook 2:5:17

Beauty – Domesticated but Found Living Amongst a Feral Colony

3/15/17 – For all of us working to save the abandoned and abused, it breaks our hearts to know of the many dogs and cats left to fend for themselves in this brutal weather. They are left without food, shelter, and more importantly, love. Thankfully, Beautyy was recently rescued and is now in a warm home being loved by a family. 4 Paws 1 Heart was, once again, happy to be able to make the difference between life and death because we will support our rescue friends with the needed medical assistance. Please don’t turn your back if you find a stray animal on the street. And, remember to always encourage spaying and neutering. ~ dianaBeauty 3:15:17

Blue – He Lived in an Abusive Home, Then Abandoned, Now Needs Surgery on Two Legs

3/14/17 – Please say a prayer for Blue who had ACL surgery late yesterday. Blue is a 3 year old Mastiff who spent the first few months of his life in a very abusive home where he wasn’t fed and was often punished for getting in the trash. Eventually, the owners were jailed for some other offense and friends of the family took in Blue where he was loved for a while. Then the mom had to move and her son went into the Marines, leaving Blue to find another forever home. Some kind people heard of his plight and took him in only to find that the ACL in both legs were broken; one leg requiring immediate surgery. Poor Blue spent months in pain and unable to put weight on his back legs. He could only ‘hop’ around. Fortunately, with the partnership of some friends we were able to give Blue the help he needed and we are praying that his first surgery goes well so that the other can be scheduled in a timely fashion. ~ dianablue

Gigi and Her Kittens – Pregnant and Rescued in January; Gigi has Two Kittens

3/13/17 – Meet Gigi and her babies. It was the end of January when this very sweet girl was rescued from the streets of St. Clair Shores. We were contacted to see if we could pay for spaying, vaccines, testing — you know, the usual. Gigi was taken to the vet where it was discovered that she was pregnant with two kittens. She was placed in a loving foster home and on the night of one of the worst weather related power outages in Southeast Michigan, March 8, Gigi’s babies were born in the dark. Thankfully the foster knew ahead of time that Gigi was carrying two babies. Everyone is doing well and you can see what a beautiful family they are with Midwest Small Breed Animal Rescue if anyone has any future interest. ~ dianaGigi w:cheryl klos 1:28:17gigi's babies 3:3:17

Kittens – 4 Newborn Kittens Found with Umbilical Cords Still Attached

3/12/17 – More animals who will be saved from the dangers of the streets because of our wonderful friends and 4 Paws 1 Heart! ~ diana

Kittens - newborn w:rachelgerster 3:11:17“Thank you so much to 4 paws 1 heart, Jo Sweeney Addington, Debbie Nelson, Kimba Ladd, James Mazza, Kim Miller, Caitlin & everyone else who played a part in saving these beautiful, sweet, newborn kittens!!!

Caitlin was walking in the park with a friend when they heard little cries in the cold… They followed the noise & found 4 abandoned newborn kittens… All with umbilical cords still attached & one still partly in the sac! She immediately took a video (in comments) & sent it to Kim, who put out the call for help. After waiting & watching in the distance for 45 minutes it was determined that mom was not coming back for them… We were fortunate enough to be able to get the kittens to a lactating mom whose own kittens had just finished weaning thanks to James & Kimba!! With Jo & Debbie’s help we took the right steps & mom immediately let the babies begin to latch on & feed!!!!! 4 paws 1 heart immediately stepped up to offer vetting for the kittens when they are old enough <3

It truly takes a village & we couldn’t have saved these sweet babies if it weren’t for everyone involved… So we have to put out a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who played such an important role!!!

They will be available for adoption in about 12 weeks <3 & we won’t forget the mom, either!!! We are going back to trap her to ensure she gets fixed & that this won’t happen with her again!!! Please everyone, spay & neuter your animals 🙂 it prevents situations like this!! Also please step up & help spay & neuter stray cats in your neighborhood & area! If everyone helped we could make a big difference this year!! Ask me how & I would be more than happy to help!!!

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Our wonderful village was able to save these babies & they will be loved & well cared for, for the rest of their lives now! ❤ ~ Rachel”

Izzy – Found Needing Emergency Surgery

Two nights ago I was contacted about this very sweet cat who had been cared for as part of a colony. He appeared to be in distress when trying to urinate. Therewas also a trail of blood on the porch. Unfortunately, due to the high winds and power outages we couldn’t get him in to a vet until yesterday morning. Thankfully, our friend, Dr. Hynes, at Advance Animal Emergency, saw Izzy immediately and determined he needed surgery for a urinary blockage. Izzy was in critical condition. I authorized the surgery which saved his life and today he is resting comfortably in the hospital. The kind woman who sought the help of 4 paws 1 heart will keep Izzy permanently inside. Like so many others, Izzy appears to have been a pet at one time because he is very sweet and loves to be petted. He either escaped from his home or was abandoned. Izzy would have died a horrible death had so many people not stepped up to help.izzy 3:10:17

Johnny the Kitten – Rescued With A Broken Leg

3/9/17 – Happy Update!! It was in July, 2015 when we were contacted about Johnny the Kitten.

“7/29/15 – Meet Johnny the Kitten. He is about 10 weeks old and his leg was broken when a calf accidentally stepped on it. A very kind woman rescued him, took him to a vet and immediately got him help using her own money. We commend the rescuer and the veterinarian who performed surgery and provided a payment plan to the rescuer (very few do). We were happy to help with the medical bill and have since learned that Johnny is doing great. As his rescuer Samantha said “I took this baby because he has no voice and he has been like this for at least two days that I know of. He is very sweet and loving. He deserves a chance. He has a long life ahead of him. diana”

Yesterday we received an update from his mom and savior, Samantha Adams :

“I am sure you guys remember Johnny the kitten with a broken leg.( how could you forget that face?) Here he is now a whopping 15lb. I just wanted to take the time once again to thank you! I may have stumbled across him accidentally. But he has definitely won my heart over time and time again. – Samantha”

Here is Johnny the Kitten’s photo today, after he was rescued and taken to the vet, and after he settled in with his new family. I so love hearing the happy updates so that I can share the news with our supporter. ~ dianajohnny the Kitten 3:9:17johnny the kitten 2015johnny the kitten - 2015

Honoring Women Who Make A Difference

3/8/17 – International Woman’s Day – Make a donation today in honor of that special woman in your life. She may be a mother, a manager, a teacher, a business owner, a veteran, a rescuer — any woman who has made a difference in this world. My donation today will be in honor of one of the strongest women I have ever known, my grandmother. Born in 1904 and finding herself pregnant at just 17, spent time in a home for unwed mothers until her child was born. Her son went on to be a WW II veteran who was like a second father to me.

And, talking about women who have tried to make a difference. 4 Paws 1 Heart was founded by two women. Me, (Diana Rascano, retired Director from DTE Energy), and Gina Deluca, Licensed Veterinarian Technician (extraordinaire). With the help of four phenomenal business women, our organization became a 501c3 and a Board was put in place. Today our Board consists of 9 very smart, hard working, and caring women who go above and beyond to raise funds that will be used for medical treatment for abandoned, stray, and abused animals. Since August of 2010, 4 Paws 1 Heart has paid $480,856 in medical bills for over 4,000 animals. And, we couldn’t have done it without the financial support of our followers. Donations can be made through paypal on this page, on our website,www.4paws1heart.org, or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. Please share and remember that 99 cents for every dollar donated, goes directly to the medical care of the animal.
