Matching Gift Challenge in Memory of Brad and Audra Laubert

4/17/17 – 4 Paws 1 Heart is humbled to announce the BRAD and AUDRA LAUBERT MATCHING GIFT CHALLENGE in memory of Bradley K. Laubert (1980 – 2017) and his sister, Audra M. Laubert (1967 – 2014). A friend of the Laubert family will match all donations made to 4 Paws 1 Heart, April 17 through April 24, 2017, to a maximum of $3,000.00!

Brad and Audra were long-time residents of St. Clair Shores and shared a passion for rescuing cats and dogs. Brad’s Mr. Bittens was his shadow. Although we mourn the loss of two very wonderful people, we hope their family can find solace in knowing that Brad and Audra’s legacies will live on in the many animals who will be saved by this very generous Matching Challenge. ~ diana

Hope – Rescued with Severe Heart Worm

4/18/17 – Prayers Needed! This beautiful girl, Hope, was running the streets in January, emaciated and very sick. Fortunately, a loving family rescued her and attempted to find her owner. None could be found. She was immediately taken to a veterinarian because her body was covered with wounds, one wound was a very deep hole. Hope’s wounds were treated but then she began coughing and had trouble eating and drinking. Her rescuers took her to two veterinarians, one thought she would need open heart surgery. The other conducted more tests and felt that was not needed. What everyone did agree to was that her heart was very damaged from heart worm. A friend of 4p1h contacted us about Hope’s plight; the family was running out of money to pay for vet bills and by this time, they were worried that they could not ‘rescue’ her after all. I contacted the rescuers and now 4 Paws 1 Heart will work with the rescuers in hopes of giving Hope a second chance in life. Hope will be seeing one of our favorite doctors at Patterson Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Zalac, today. Please say a little prayer that Hope can be on the road to recovery very soon. If we can make this happen, her rescuers will become her permanent, loving family. ~ dianahope 4:18:17 --hope 4:18:17heartworm

Emma – While Giving Birth, A Baby Got Stuck

4/17/17 – It was the end of March when I learned that our good friends at Happy Tails SCS was in need of medical assistance. They had recently rescued two pregnant moms (sisters) who were scheduled to be euthanized. They also had a brother who Happy Tails was able to get placed with another rescue. The one sister, Emma, went into labor and had to have an emergency C section because a baby was stuck in the birth canal. With the great work of the Patterson medical team Dr. Zalac and veterinary technician Amber Smith, all babies were delivered and thriving. 4 Paws 1 Heart was happy to pay for Emma’s c-section, we know how hard it is for our rescue friends when it comes to unplanned medical needs. Anyone interested in any of these babies should check out Happy Tails they often have adoption events at the Pet Supplies Plus store on Harper near 13 Mile in St. Clair Shores, MI. ~ diana
Also, please remember that your donations make this possible!

Charlie – 4 Years Ago He Was a Beaten Dog

4/17/17 – Happy Update on one of the 4,000 animals we’ve helped since August, 2010. Your donations give these animals not only a second chance in life, but they also ensure other unwanted animals will no longer be born. Donations can be made through paypal by using the donate link on this page or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. Here was our first contact about Charlie:

“Dear Diana and Gina,
I’m writing to you because I’ve taken in a stray dog who is in need of urgent help. I found him in my neighborhood hanging out by an abandoned school. He was whimpering and clearly in rough shape, with swollen front legs and and part of his mouth hanging limp, so I brought him in to my vet. She speculated that he was likely a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. She also said that she believed that while his injuries were serious and would require surgery, he could be treated. Of course, given all he has been through, his psychological wounds would need a lot of attention as well. One of the vet techs told me about your organization, and I wanted to see if you would consider taking this very sweet boy on. I am currently keeping him in my back yard, feeding him and giving him the antibiotics and pain med prescribed by the vet.” ~ Leah”

With the help of 4 Paws 1 Heart and generous donations made through an on-line fundraiser conducted by Leah and with the help of TailWaggers, Charlie was treated. And, now, we are blessed to get this update and photo:

4/14/17 – “Here’s a picture I just took of Charlie, who 4 Paws 1 Heart helped make whole again almost 3 years ago, after he was used for dog fighting and abandoned in my neighborhood. He is a sweet, happy boy and is always making me laugh– like when he looks goofy with drool and tongue sticking out 🙂 ~ Leah”charlie w:leah wiste 4:17:17Charlie, 2013

Minnie – Hit by a Car, Pregnant, Brought to a Veterinary by a Good Samaritan

I received a call from the great people at Patterson Veterinary Hospitalasking if we could help with this very sweet, pregnant cat who had been hit by a car. I offered to pay medical and suggested they contact Happy Tails. The good news is that after a few days in the hospital, this sweetie is with Happy Tails in a foster home and hopefully on her way to a successful delivery and a happy life. ~ diana

“Welcome Minnie!

A good Samaritan brought her to Patterson Vet after finding her hit by a car. She seems to have only minor scrapes but it was discovered that she’s also pregnant.

THANK YOU to the Drs and staff at Patterson for taking care of her and THANK YOU to 4Paws1Heart for paying for her medical!!

Send prayers for her as she really doesn’t want to eat but we’re hoping that now that she’s in a foster home she’ll feel better. – Happy Tails SCS”

Katniss Everdeen, Snickers, Hercules, and Chance – The Mascots of 4 Paws 1 Heart

4/16/17 – Happy Easter to all of our Christian friends and Happy Passover to all of our Jewish friends. I am so thrilled to announce, that because of the phenomenal support of our friends, 4 Paws 1 Heart was selected to win $1,000 during the Home Shopping Network (HSN) Cares charity challenge. For one day in May, 4 Paws 1 Heart will be recognized by the HSN network. I will let everyone know what day is selected for us but in the meantime, here is just a few of the many happy stories you have helped us create. ~ diana

Katniss Everdeen was found on a curb in Detroit during a rainstorm, stuffed in a small carrier. She was emaciated and her spine was curved and that night she required emergency surgery where it was found that she had over one pound of material clogging her intestines. Today, as you can see, she is absolutely beautiful and in a loving home.

Snickers was found at about 5 weeks old in an icy puddle in an alley in Hamtramck, MI A 9-year old boy heard her weak meows. With the help of a ‘village’ of caring people, she found her way to 4 Paws 1 Heart. Snickers almost lost her eyes as a result of a severe upper respiratory infection but because of 4 Paws 1 Heart and a wonderful eye specialist, she retained her eyesight and lives with a loving fur and skin family.

Hercules was brought to us after he was found on the lawn of his owner’s home almost unable to move. He was emaciated and it was later found that both back legs were irreparably broken by his owner when he was just one month old. Nothing was ever done and surgery wasn’t an option. Hercules had many sessions of hydrotherapy and later found his way to a great doctor and friend who does various forms of therapy, including acupuncture. Hercules was eventually adopted by his doctor and her husband and has truly become the poster boy for abused animals.

Chance was rescued from a high-kill shelter; he was scheduled to be euthanized when it was found that both of his back legs were paralyzed. A friend contacted us about his plight and we agreed to take him under our wing. After three veterinarians suggested euthanizing Chance because no one could determine why he was paralyzed, we took him to Hercules’ mom, Dr. Tari Kern. And, today, he even has his own facebook page, “A Second Chance For Chance”.2017 calendar coverkatnisssnickersherculesChance, May 2015

Chance – Says a Prayer for All Animals

As Chance, I also pray for the many abandoned and stray defenseless animals. Everyone can make a difference through legislation, donations, fostering, adopting, and prayer.

“Hi God! Its me, Chance. Its almost Easter, and I just want you to know that this year I would like to forgo my usual Easter Basket of treats and catnip peeps. It would be sooo much better if you could have a chat with the Easter Bunny and ask him if in lieu of baskets for all of us, if he could please bring forever homes for all of the homeless animals and kittens & puppies being born outside this time of year. I know its a tall order, but it is the Easter Bunny after all! Well, its time for all of us to have our treats, kisses & cuddles and go for our nitenites. Thanks for listening,
Love Always Chance”chance 4:14:17

Gert – She Ran Into a Moving Car

4/14/17 – This beautiful girl (1-2 years old) was seen running into a moving car. We were contacted to see if we would cover a doctor visit, which we did. She was found to have a bruised lung and is on medication. She must be kept quiet for 2 weeks.  She has been placed on For The Love of Louie in hopes of finding her owner. The rescuer is calling her Gert. 4 Paws 1 Heart will cover her spay and vaccines when she is healthy. UPDATE – The doctor contacted me to tell me that Gert is also heart worm positive!! She is very docile and is still looking for a rescue. 4 Paws 1 Heart has committed to paying for her heart worm treatment. I have been told that I Heart Dogs may be able to take her in the near future. ~ diana
