10/23/17 – Dear Friends, once again we find ourselves in a position where we have to be on hold from helping any new animals being rescued. Today, I paid bills totaling $15,373 to 4 veterinary hospitals for just the past month. Unless we get significant donations or support in our next couple of fundraisers, we will be on hold for a minimum of one month. As of today, we have paid $108,000 between 1/1/17 through 10/23/17 in medical bills. I’m sorry to keep asking but if you can, please make a donation today through paypal by using the donate link on our website or on the left side of this page. Or mail a check to P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI. As you do that, please say a little prayer for all of those animals who have been left on the street to die horrible deaths all alone. These are two souls who were lucky enough to find someone who brought them into their homes to die in loving arms without further suffering. Th
ank you Shawnna and the kind lady who fed this poor kitty while he was in the wild. We were called when he couldn’t control his bladder and was not able to move his bowels. He was dirty and flea infested. The doctor suspected tumors and kidney failure. He died loved and clean late yesterday. This elderly dog was found lying in the shade at a car wash; not moving. A kind man took her home with the approval of a nearby police officer. He fed her and gave her water and she started to perk up. Unfortunately, she began to go down quickly over night which was thought to be because of congestive heart failure, the great doctors at OVRS, humanely euthanized her and put her out of her suffering. RIP Sweet Animals of God. Because of our finances, we were not able to respond as quickly as I would have liked. Would it have made a difference? I don’t know. ~ diana

Knuckie, Blackie, and Boo – The Many Cats Left Behind by Their Owners
10/22/17 – I know you’ve seen manyy kittens/cats this year. There have been many sad endings, but, fortunately, there were more happy beginnings. As a cat mom for 38 years, I just don’t know why people believe cats are expendable. They won’t neuter or spay and then they will throw them out of their home or leave them behind to fend for themselves when they move. Talk to any real estate gent and ask them how many times they have come across a home where the cats were left behind in the home. And, this is being done by people who allegedly like cats! Those who don’t ‘like’ cats, mostly driven by the movies and superstitions, ignore them — or worse — torture them. Here are more of the kittens and cats, we helped this past summer who were rescued by some of the wonderful, caring people who often come to us for help. Thank You again for anything you can do to help us in our mission. ~ diana
Ana – Found with a Severe Puncture Wound

10/18/17 – Ana was found with a severe puncture wound on the side of her neck. We were contacted and she was immediately taken to the veterinary hospital. The doctor said that he had never seen an infection so severe. After a few days in the hospital, she was released and is now living inside the home of the rescuer. Without the rescuer and our medical help, she would have died a horrible death in the wild. ~ diana
Dutch – Rescued from an Abusive Owner
10/17/17 – Dear Friends, please say a prayer for Dutch and if you possibly can, make a donation to help with his surgery. Dutch was rescued by the police from an abusive situation. His leg was broken at the femur and nothing had been done for over one month to get him any help. The owners surrendered Dutch to the police and he was given to a very kind person who had reported the abuse. When Dutch, who was in much pain, was taken to the vet by his rescuer, the doctor’s recommendation was to install a plate and pins at a cost of over $3,000. The rescuer had already paid for the x-rays and visit but could not afford the surgery; he was told to contact 4 Paws 1 Heart.
As many of you know, we have had many serious cases this summer and fall and could not afford the surgery either. I discussed getting a second opinion from one of our favorite doctors at Patterson Veterinary and the rescuer agreed even though our vet was on the other side of town.
Dutch was seen on Friday
Our doctor was not as confident that a plate and pins would help Dutch in that the break had occurred over one month ago. Another option was to amputate the leg, which is what was decided. The rescuer did not want to put Dutch through any more than necessary. The surgery, including Dutch’s neuter, is being done today. I will make sure to give an update.
If you can make a donation to help with Dutch, please use the paypal link on this page or on our website 4paws1heart.org, or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Thanks!! ~ diana

Honeydew – Found Emaciated and Walking the Streets
0/16/17 – Honeydew. She was found emaciated, walking the streets all alone. She appears to have been neglected and used for breeding by the look of her teats. She has several scars on her body. She is a little dirty in this photo, because it was taken shortly after she was found. We are guessing she is maybe 3 or 4 years old. She is scheduled to see one of our vets so that she can be spayed, vaccinated, and tested for heart worm (paws crossed she is healthy). She has a very sweet temperament and the finders will make sure she is healthy before they find her a forever home. Attempts were made to find her owner without success. From my experience, it is likely she was dumped when the ‘owners’ no longer had use for her. Please say a little prayer for Honeydew. And, please consider making a donation to help us in our mission to reduce the number of homeless animals by providing medical funding for them. Donations can be made through paypal on this page or by mail at P.O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI . 48080. Also, if you are interested in Honeydew, please contact Phoenix at: phoenixskydimauro@gmail.com . ~ diana
Amelia – Found on the Side of the Road — Unable to Walk
10/15/17 – Happy Update!! I just wanted to share this happy update from Amelia’s rescuer AND official mom. You might remember that Amelia was found on the side of the road by Chelsea’s sister. She was in pretty bad shape and couldn’t walk. Of course, we approved to have Chelsea seen by one of our favorite vets at Patterson Veterinary Hospital. It was determined that Chelsea’s arm was broken and would require amputation. Well, here is the happy news:
“Amelia is doing so good! She is finally playing and enjoying her life for the first time. She is still skiddish and runs and hides when she hears anything or there is any sudden movement. She is getting more confident as she is learning how to move faster and build up her strength. I have pet stairs throughout my house for her and she is flying up and down them without any trouble.
The original home I had lined up for her fell through I’ve completely fallen in love with her and she has been such a huge part of my life since I suddenly lost my own cat the week before I found her. My other 2 cats just adore her – 1 of them has never gotten along with another animal until Amelia. If I am able to keep her myself I would really love to. Please let me know what I would need to do (paperwork, adoption fees, etc).
Chelsea & Amelia”
As the rescuer, there are no adoption fees or paperwork needed because we just want these loving, abandoned, abused, and stray cats to find their forever loving home which, obviously, Amelia has done. (Of course, we absolutely encourage adoption fees, applications, and home checks when it comes to outside adoptions. But when a rescuer takes out so much time to provide shelter, food, and transportations to and from vets, we know the love is already there. A huge thanks to Chelsea and we wish the entire family many happy years.

Tiny Tim – Found on the Streets with a Broken Spine
10/14/17 –
A huge thank you to Maria and the employees of Cadillac Products in Roseville, MI for caring enough to save this little baby who couldn’t walk. Maria contacted me when Tiny Tim was brought home. At the time, the rescuers all thought her leg was broken. The great staff at Patterson, squeezed her in because she was in a lot of pain and after x rays were taken, it was determined that he spine was broken and that her colon was overflowing with feces. Tiny Tim’s prognosis was very poor and if he survived surgery for both conditions, he faced many months of recovery. We all decided to accept the doctor’s recommendation to humanely euthanize the suffering baby. These decisions are never easy and I continue to admire the many caring people who don’t turn their backs on the abandoned and abused. ~ diana

Jolly – Allowed to Run the Streets; Not Spayed with Heart Worm
10/5/17 – Meet Jolly. Poor Jolly was owned by an irresponsible pet owner who had an intact male and refused to let the neighborhood pay for her spaying. Jolly would keep escaping from her yard and roam the alleys where the concerned citizens would feed her. She eventually ended up with 9 babies; 2 of whom died, and God only know the fate of the rest. We also don’t know how many babies she had prior.
No matter what the neighborhood would do, her owner refused to let her bespayed or treated for fleas, etc. Then, finally, the owner told her neighbor ‘she’s yours’ and the neighborhood paid for her spay at All About Animals where they spayed her but also found her positive for heart worm.
I was contacted by one of the caring neighbors who was asking for help in getting Jolly’s heart worm treatment. I advised that as long as the caller was committed to Jolly and would keep her until a good home could be found, and get a signed surrender, we would pay for the heart worm treatment.
Jolly has since been seen by our awesome veterinarians and was treated for her skin infection and fleas. She was also started on her pre-heart worm treatment. She is a very sweet girl who will be under treatment for a while but if anyone is interested, please contact Janet at: jray@umich.edu. ~ diana
