1/24/23 – Although I haven’t personally received notification, word has it that Amazon Smile will be gone for the majority of non-profits effective March 1, 2023. The last day of sharing a % of purchases is February 28.
The good news is that we now have a new partner, Rite Aid Pharmacies. 1/23/23 – On January 18 we were contacted by friends of 4p1h whom we’ve assisted in the past. They said that they had found a “sweet pittie” running around the Hamtramck Detroit border on January 17. They said he was posted all over facebook and that he had been running with a very bad limp for over a week, in and out of traffic, and hanging around a park. The rescuers were able to secure him and said that he definitely had something going on with his hips and legs. Nothing looked broken but he appeared to be in pain. – diana
“He may been bumped by a car. We are searching for rescue placement and hope to find one soon. Right now he’s comfortable as he can be in a room in my house. I was wondering if there is anyway you can help with getting him vetted. He really needs his back end to be checked out, shots, microchip if possible, heartworm test and neuter. Maximus was seen by one of our partner vets and his leg was x-rayed but no breaks or fractures were found. The doctor agreed that he has a “weird walk and sits funny” but they could not see any specific reason. Maximus was found to be negative for heart worm and received the necessary vaccines. He will be neutered and then go off to his new rescue, Paws, Awes, and Claws. They will keep a close eye on him and follow up with any issues concerning his leg or continue to be in contact with us in that we have worked with them with other rescues. – diana.
1/22/23 – It all started with a volunteer at the Genesee County Shelter. This young kitten was neutered and all of a sudden became paralyzed. No one knew why but the plan was to euthanize him. The volunteer contacted Denise Najera (who years later became a board member of 4paws1heart), she contacted me, and then the rescue began. A DTE employee offered to transport Chance to Clinton Twp. And then the journey began. Years of therapy, love, and care with a lot of hard work and determination, Chance was able to walk – not perfectly, but enough. And now he needs us again and we will continue to be there for him. – diana.
CHANCE: Ok Team, we’ve got the date for my MRI. February 11th is the date which is on a Saturday. So moms off work Saturday & Sunday and Aunt Shelly is off on the 11th too.
Its pretty much an all day event so mom will drop me off at 8am (thankfully Aunt Shelly will be with her, mom is not a fan of dropping me off…ever.) But…everybody agrees we have to do the mri to get the answers we need to make my treatment plan going forward.
Mom posted the low and high estimates the other day. $2470-$2934. With all the scans, meds, bloodwork, urinalysis and other tests Ive had do far, the mri will exceed whats left in my 4 Paws 1 Heart fundraiser funds but mom & Auntie Di agree we have to move forward with the mri. Fortunately, Oliver and Muskrat have volunteered to make the sacrifice of hitting the stripper poles. (Omcat! Can you imagine? Nobody wants to see that! ) But hopefully mom reaches her goal on her Birthday Fundraiser Only 3 more days left!

1/21/23 – Pumpkin was rescued the day before Thanksgiving after she was almost hit by a car. A very kind woman who saw the incident was able to catch her. Poor two-month-old Pumpkin didn’t look to be in good shape she was very dirty. The rescuer brought her home and gave her a bath and noticed her tail was very injured but despite all of this, sweet Pumpkin was in good spirits and very playful. The family quickly fell in love with her but knew they couldn’t afford the potential medical treatment for her injured tail so they contacted us. We were thankful to be able to have Pumpkin seen at one of our favorite east side hospitals, Patterson Veterinary. Pumpkin received her standard medical vetting and part of her tail had to be amputated. Today she is doing great in a wonderful, loving household. – diana.
CHANCE: Hey there SuperHeros!!! Mom and I thought it was time to do an update on me.
So…mom is seeing some good results after my 2nd Solensia Injection. I’m not walking as low as I was and I’m “perkier”. So YAY for Solensia and mom says I will probably stay on it going forward. But…although the Solensia is helping with my arthritis, it’s not helping with my bladder issues. The Proin isn’t making much difference either. We were waiting to see if these new meds were going to do the trick before revisiting the MRI plan. On the low end it would be 2,470.00 on the high end 2,934.00. With Ct scan and all the other tests and meds it will definitely exceed what we raised in my fundraiser. Mom has spoken to Dr. Palma, Dr. Z and Auntie Di…we all want me to get the right treatment plan going forward so I can live my best life and get back to my SuperHero duties!
So mom has some details to talk over with Dr. Z but we will be rescheduling my mri again.
In the meantime please don’t forget moms Birthday Fundraiser for 4 Paws 1 Heart. There’s only 5 days left and we’re less then half way to her goal! So I’m doing my best to help mom reach her goal to help 4p1h offset the costs of my medical. You all know how much I’ve been through over the years. Intense physical therapy for a over year which thank goodness for Dr. Kern at Pawsitive Steps Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine took me from paralyzed with little hope from any other vets to walking, jumping, running and Superheroing my way through life. Lots of other stuff too…bladder infections, inflammation, tons of skin allergies..it’s expensive to be me! But 4 Paws 1 Heart have been there every step of the way. Annnd you know there’s nothing mom wants more for her birthday then to have me back to my healthy, happy self. So please donate to her fundraiser if you are able. Mom really, really appreciates it and so do I.

1/21/23 – Tramp’s rescuer reached out to Leuk’s Landing and they advised that, in their experience, about 1% of SNAP tests are accurate. They suggested another test–best would be a PCR in 30 days. If leukemia is confirmed, it sounds like they will take in Tramp. We will authorize whatever is needed. As a side note, the rescuer advised that Tramp is loving being inside. – diana.
1/20/23 – Tramp saw another one of our favorite doctors at Orion Animal Hospital and she called me with her findings. Dr. Blasses did not feel that Tramp’s dental was as severe as was previously thought. But, he does have a severe upper respiratory infection. The doctor thought he would need a good cleaning and maybe a few extractions. Tramp was given antibiotics and will be seen again the first week in February. The bad news is that he tested positive for feline leukemia and fiv. And, if the rescuer can’t find a home without other cats, she will be contacting sanctuaries. If anyone has any suggestions for a sanctuary, please advise in a post and I will give the information to Tramp’s rescuer. Another, sweet boy who needs our prayers. – diana.
1/20/23 – Satin Update: I called the vet clinic earlier today and was advised that Satin is stable and is being fed through a tube. The doctor was in surgery so I didn’t talk with her. I’m still waiting to hear more from the rescuer. Please continue to keep Satin in your prayers. – diana
1/19/23 – Muffins update from her 2/18/23 visit at Michigan State Veterinary. – diana
1/18/23 – Today we met with 2 residents who were very knowledgeable and explained the next steps in as much detail as they could. Both Liz and Julie took their time helping us understand. They were very sweet and I think they really enjoyed meeting Muffins’.
I was hoping they would’ve kept her and began the process, but due to problems uploading prior CT imaging all we could do was the consultation.
There are 2 scenarios.
First scenario is the one where the Internal medicine doctor performs live imaging with contrast and can reach the area needed to successfully open her stricture.
Second Scenario is based on what the Internal medicine doctor thinks after he has reviewed the CT images. If he thinks the stricture is to far back for him to reach, then Muffins would need to see a soft tissue surgeon specialist within the same hospital. They described the procedure would involve splitting her mandible to get to where they need to be in order to make an opening.
Although I trust them immensely, this is not the scenario I want because I’m mostly concerned about her recovery.
What she has is not common at all. It’s probably a combination of congenital deformity and chronic inflammation since birth.
I’ll likely hear from the doctor by end of this week or next week. Now that we have had the consultation, it shouldn’t take long to get her scheduled.
1/18/23 – This very sweet boy was found by a very kind man and his sons. The mom contacted us because they knew they might not be able to afford the medical help that might be needed. Poor Grayson was found on the streets with maybe 4 to 5 scab on his back plus one of his hind legs was possibly paralyzed. The other leg looked like it was usable but Grayson appeared to only move by pulling up by his front paws. Our amazing friends at Orion Animal Hospital took Grayson in almost immediately. The doctor found multiple breaks in his pelvis. The breaks were in places that would have resulted in severe constipation and arthritic conditions for the remainder of his life. Grayson was in a great deal of pain and it was decided by all to let him peacefully cross the Rainbow Bridge.
The family is very sad over this outcome but we are thankful that we all could be there for this little one who had no one. – diana.
On our way to Michigan State Veterinary Hospital. Muffins has had clogged sinuses affecting her breathing for over 6 months. This pic was from last night only 25 min after I wiped her nose. It’s constant. Praying for this to end so she can live a normal life. – Gina
