Growing Medical Need for Stray and Abandoned Cats

There is a growing medical need for stray and abandoned cats. With cold weather coming on, the situation will just get worse. As a friend of A Hopeful Heart, I read Melanie’s post and knew we had to help. This little sweetheart reminded me too much of our sweet Keller and Snickers and I couldn’t turn away. It appears she has an eye missing and a threatening infection in the other. Here is Melanie’s story:

“This random guy walked up to me, shoved it in my hand and told me he just found it. When I looked at it I thought the eye was just swollen but one is completely missing and the other one is bulging out and there is a yellow crust on it. It is not good at all.” ~ Melanie

Please pray for this sweet baby and if there are any people amongst our friends who can adopt or foster cats, please let us know. There are so many. ~ diana

Dewey Update

10/30/13 DEWEY UPDATE: Dewey is still unsteady on his feet and taking baby steps in recovery. I am taking care of him at home and will report when I know more… I think he just needs time; after all, his operation was major. He is such a sweetheart. ~ Gina

R.I.P. Little Sweetheart

UPDATE: I am heartbroken to report that the little sweetheart rescued by a 4 Paws 1 Heart friend and taken to the Canton Animal Hospital did not make it through the night. 4 Paws 1 Heart paid for her final cremation and although the total cost of trying to help her set us back over $400, we would not have opted for anything else. To think of her dying on the side of the road, possibly being hit by cars, and being used as prey just makes us work harder to capture funds for all of these poor abandoned babies. ~ diana

Puppy Mill Awareness of Southeast Michigan honored ACO Lisa Taylor

As we’ve reported before, Animal Control Officers are not given a fund to help rescued/injured animals. 4 Paws 1 Heart does everything we can afford to give the Animal Control Officers of Sterling Heights, Warren, and Roseville some options. Yesterday the Puppy Mill Awareness of Southeast Michigan honored Lisa Taylor, ACO for Warren, with their Rooster Award. This was in recognition of Lisa’s work in getting justice for the animals who were being kept and sold at the store in Warren owned by Dennis Jones. 4 Paws 1 Heart recognized Lisa’s work by giving her a check made out to Hoover Road Animal Hospital which is one of the veterinaries working with the animal control officers. ~ diana

A Heartfelt Thank You

10/28/13: A Heartfelt thank you to the following businesses for including 4 Paws 1 Heart in their fundraising activities. We should all support those businesses who help non-profits raise money, without them we couldn’t do the work we do:

Circare Gifts, 23024 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores

Hair Odyssey, 32480 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville

Thank You,
diana

Please Try to Make a Difference

Please try to make a difference and contact your communities about this disgusting practice of inhumane treatment to innocent animals. Keep in mind that the cities of Sterling Heights, Warren, Roseville, Eastpointe, and St. Clair Shores do not allow free roaming animals or TNR programs. Consequently, all cats being brought to the County shelter by animal control officers are being euthanized. In other communities where trap/neuter/release is allowed, the cats are being spayed/neutered and returned to the community from which they came. Let’s educate and not kill. AND, if you have a rodent problem in your community, maybe TNR is a better alternative over placing poison traps in backyards at the cost of thousands of dollars (I believe St. Clair Shores is planning to spend $1 million in rat abatement) ~ diana

A neighborhood in Harper Woods is thanking Harper Woods police Friday night, after traps were finally set for the growing number of feral cats. They say one particular neighbor kept feeding the cats, causing them to keep living at the abandoned home next door.

Speaking Out for BSL

This girl is the sweetest. 4 Paws 1 Heart helped when she was just a puppy because she needed therapy as a ‘3-legged’ dog. Lori Jobak of 4Paws Health & Wellness, LLC provided hyrdrotherapy and today she is living the life with her foster failure, Jenna Preston. All of us at 4P1H love her and are very proud she is speaking out for BSL. ~ diana

Carson Coupon Book Sales

10/27/13 – A huge thank you to our Board members, Darlene and Melissa, and Hercules’ mom and dad, Chris and Tari for joining me in selling the Carson’s coupon books yesterday. Understandably, Roscoe and Hercules attracted much attention which resulted in us selling 43 books and bringing much awareness to 4 Paws 1 Heart!! Their fur brothers and sisters are very proud of them. ~ diana
