Happy Memorial Day Weekend from our new batch of kitties who will be available at Cats Veterinary when they are old enough to be adopted. Here’s their story ~ diana

“The “Memorial Weekend” bottle babies.

“A good Samaritan found these babies in his garage. Because of our relationship with 4 Paws 1 Heart, we were able to take these little ones on and provide them veterinary care and to nurse these little ones into healthy adoptable kittens. So far all kittens have received 1 de-worming and have been tested negative for FeLV/ FIV. We have named the litter patriotically to celebrate their arrival to our clinic during the holiday weekend. Black Kitten, female “Summer”/ Tabby kitten with white paws , female”Liberty”/ Tabby kitten , female “Bell”/ Black with white- this is the runt “Honor”. ~ Jessica

We are grateful to be able to help our great rescue friends like The Devoted Barn. These two beautiful, feral dogs would not have had a second chance if it wasn’t for the great work of Melissa, her family, and her team. These two dogs were in a feral hoarding case conducted by the Toledo Humane Society. Because of parvo, all of the puppies rescued died, with the exception of these two boys. This beautiful but emaciated female was rescued by Wil L., a friend of 4 Paws 1 Heart. She was wandering the streets with no identification, emaciated, and with a few wounds on her body. She will be seeing our friends at Patterson Veterinary tomorrow to be tested, vaccinated, and eventually spayed. We are proud and thankful to have one more sweet animal saved and never having to live a life of abuse again.

Ryker is on the mend update!

After being attacked about 2 weeks ago by two large dog’s, Ryker was laying on the grass lifeless and helpless.. The homeowner didn’t know what to do because this was a stray that wound up on his property. He couldn’t watch Ryker die there, so he called for help and “4 paws 1 heart” stepped in to give Ryker a second chance, but he needed major emergency surgery asap to put his organs back where they were supposed to be. Then he needed another surgery because his back leg was broken in half. Due to the infection we had to amputate. Today he is doing wonderful and healing day by day…
Ryker has a lot of stitches and staples but he is alive, and he will make a very loving member of the family for someone out there… It’s taking him a little adjusting to the three legs, but his name means “Strength” and he is living up to it. We all love him and are looking forward to finding him a forever home

Helpling Paws for the Cause Feral Cat Rescue.

We very much appreciate the help of Paws For The Cause Feral Cat Rescue. Not only have they’ve been instrumental in assisting me in St. Clair Shores with the TNR issue and needs, they continue to rescue domesticated cats. We are happy that because of our friends who continue to attend our fundraisers, we are able to ‘share the wealth’ with our rescue friends. Here are a few of their stories. ~ diana

“Grace had her eye removed yesterday due to a virus that destroyed her cornea.

Grace’s brother Will is scheduled to be neutered and examined under anesthesia next week for a “head tilt”- we are hoping it’s simply a congenital defect.

We are also taking our diabetic love bug Rusty into the vet weekly for “curve tests” as his diabetes is still completely uncontrolled and it has also been discovered that he has an infection- most likely due to his prior inability to fully empty his bladder which resulted in bacteria forming in his bladder.”

If you think we are helping many cats lately, that would be an understatement. There are so many kittens being born on the street and yet there are people who continue to let their in-tact ‘pets’ outside. It’s bad enough to let your pet cat outside but to not have him/her fixed, is outrageous — not only for the cat’s sake but also the community. This little sweetheart was recently rescued by our 4P1H friend, Jo A. She was walking in the middle of the street. We were glad to be able to pay for her examination and vaccines and will pay for her to be spayed when ready. Fortunately, Jo believes she has a home lined up for her. ~ diana

Forever Home needed for Sweet Jane – Can you open your heart & home?

You may remember Jane?? It was Jane’s very sad story that was the catalyst for our friendship with Mutts of Motown and I think the first time we helped them with medical bills. Although 4p1h has many of our own medical bills right now, we will always help our rescue partners who help us in placing animals for whom we provide medical treatment. Jane has a special place in my heart. And, although she doesn’t require the medical help we just provided for the dogs rescues by Mutts of Motown, I wanted to take this opportunity to once again share her story. Please share and let’s find this very sweet girl her forever home. Here’s her story. ~ diana

“Jane has been in rescue a year and a half. She was stray and living with a pack inside an empty house in Detroit. A well meaning neighbor was feeding them all. One day the entire pack turned on her and attacked her. We were called and when we arrived poor Jane was bleeding out indide the house. The snow outside was blood red and she was transported to safety. She was treated for her hundreds of puncture wounds and it was discovered she had heartworm too. We saw her through all of it with the help of our vet and our supporters. She’s one of our best behaved dogs. She’s understandably nervous around other dogs. She must be the only dog, she has a fenced yard requirement, and older kids are fine. She walks great on leash and is perfectly housetrained. Please inquire about Jane by calling (586)690-2808

Misfit no More!

We always want to be there for our individual rescue friends, the animals brought into the emergency hospitals, and our rescue friends who help us. Meet Beeker who is with Misfit Angels. Here is his story. ~ diana

“Misfit Beeker – 5 year old Shih Tzu
Misfit Beeker was picked up by animal control sitting in the middle of the road in pretty bad shape! This poor girl is full of infection inside and out She went to the vet on 5-3-14 and has chronic skin and ear infections. Her ears were so swollen and full of puss the vet didnt mess with them yet! She is getting ear drops to take down the swelling. Her nails were starting to grow into her feet! She also has a urinary track infection! She has a hernia that will be taken care of when she is healthy enough to have surgery! She does have a low grad heart murmur that should not cause her any future problems. She is going back to the vet on 5-8-14 to have a Heartworm test. We pray that is negative!! She will also be getting groomed because she is just a matted mess. She has a long road of healing and learning to trust again! She is potty and crate trained though!”
