Miley was put into a Fox Trap to be Used as Bait

7/24/13 Every day I thank God that we have been supported by fellow animal lovers in our quest to help the injured and abused. This is Miley; put into a fox trap to be used as bait. Only 4 weeks old, she lost a pay in the process. Miley was rescued by our good friends at A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue and we are happy to help with her medical bill. Miley is now in a wonderful foster home being loved and pampered. ~ diana

Now Saved, Loved and Recovering

Dear Friends of 4 Paws 1 Heart, Please don’t forget that we continue to need your help so that we can help the abandoned and abused who either are brought into the emergency hospital or rescued by our rescue friends. We rely totally on individual donations and fundraisers. Today I wrote the check to honor a commitment that kicked off a major effort to save this suspected bait dog who was rescued by an individual. And, I’m proud to say that with the help of Dr. Dawn, the tenacity of the rescuer, Leah W., and another organization, Tail Waggers, who put out a call for monetary help, we were able to save this dog who will now have a second chance to be loved. Here is the message that began the effort:

7/22/13 “Dear Diana and Gina, I’m writing to you because I’ve taken in a stray dog who is in need of urgent help. I found him in my northwest Detroit neighborhood hanging out by an abandoned school. He was whimpering and clearly in rough shape, with swollen front legs and part of his mouth hanging limp, so I brought him in to my vet. She speculated that he was likely a bait dog in a dog fighting ring. She also said that she believed that while his injuries were serious and would require surgery, he could be treated. Of course, given all he has been through, his psychological wounds would need a lot of attention as well. One of the vet techs told me about your organization, and I wanted to see if you would consider taking this very sweet boy on. I am currently keeping him in my back yard, feeding him and giving him the antibiotics and pain med prescribed by the vet.” ~ LeahI contacted Leah immediately and, although, we could not commit to paying the entire cost of what would be extensive surgery, we could at least get the ball rolling. Thankfully Dr. Dawn trusted that we would honor the dollar commitment and an appointment was made for the next day. There were two critical issues beyond having the money for the surgery and those were knowing Charlie’s mental state and what his quality of life would be after surgery. Dr. Dawn was going to include that in her assessment before performing surgery. Dr. Dawn and Gina spoke and later that day Dr. Dawn saw Charlie and felt strongly that he could be saved. Surgery was then performed based on our promise and Leah’s commitment to seek additional funds (which was successfully accomplished with the help of Tail Waggers who got Charlie’s story out which resulted in more donations for the surgery and after care). ~ diana

Maggie, a Lab Mix

7/22/13 This is Maggie. She is a lab mix; 13 weeks old and eleven pounds. A super sweet female. The family that had her didn’t want her because they “thought” she was sick, (although they changed their story several times) I offered to have them sign her over to 4 Paws 1 Heart to get her out of their possession, so that we could save her from the life no puppy deserves. Maggie is happy and healthy. Thank you to our good friends at A Hopeful Heart Rescue for taking her in to find a loving, forever home. ~ gina

Diamond and Michigan Cat Rescue

4 Paws 1 Heart works with rescue organizations by helping them with medical bills. When we read about Diamond, we knew we had to help. Here is her story from the Michigan Cat Rescue: ~ diana

“Diamond had a mass on her abdomen and was very sad at the shelter; nobody would adopt her and her time was up.
She was a stray, trying to survive on the streets. She suffered from a horrible flea infestation that’s why most of her hair was missing. By the way, she is already declawed…she was living out on the streets this way…how sad is that?

Fortunately, the mass was not a tumor but a hernia which was repaired and now she is healing and will be looking for her forever home.”

Fritz is Looking for His Forever Home

JULY 18, 2013 ~ If any of our friends and family find themselves with a few extra dollars, please consider donating to 4 Paws 1 Heart. It’s important to support your local organizations because they don’t have the money for expensive commercials and mailings. And, when you donate to small local organizations, your money is more likely to go directly to the cause. With 4 Paws 1 Heart, every dollar donated (with the exception of one person’s cell phone) goes directly to funding medical treatment. All other expenses are donated by some of the Board members. You can donate using paypal on our facebook page or our website or by mailing a check to 4 Paws 1 Heart, P. O. Box 84, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Thank You!!!
This is Fritz who is still in need of his forever home. He’s the little guy who needed surgery to remove dozens of rubber bands and because of 4 Paws 1 Heart, he is alive today because of our supporters!. ~ diana

Update from Makayla

Remember “Gina’s Babies” — An update from Makayla. ~ diana
Happy Tail Update from Makayla!!!We’re so very thankful that this sweet girl’s adoptive parents Dennis and Carol helped Makayla write this awesome update e-mail:

“I am enjoying the time up north and new found freedoms. I have a spacious yard and they tell me that there is wild life here, but I have yet to actually interact with them.

At nine months, I think I am at my full growth. I have become quite the “princess” and even have my fur-ever parents trained to my way of thinking. It’s not easy getting them to comply some days.

I have outgrown two “carry cages” so would like to donate them to NBS. Please let us know if you would like them and how to get them to someone from NBS.

I am sending a picture of me taken recently…..you can see how pretty and precious I am. I look a bit “scruffy” but am due for my grooming on Tuesday.”

What a beautiful little lady!! Thank-you so very much Carol for sending us a wonderful picture of her all grown up!

Thank You to Those Who Responded to Our Call for Donations

A big thank you to those who responded to our call for donations. This is how your dollars are spent:This sweet guy was running scared and after one hour was tasered by the police so as to end the chase. Some good people who had been leaving church witnessed the incident and rescued the dog. Although they rescue mastiffs, they couldn’t use their rescue’s dollars to help this guy and called out to other rescues for financial help. Fortunately, they were referred to us and we were happy to help as much as our bank account would allow. The good news is that the tasering did not result in permanent harm and now he has been vaccinated and will be neutered compliments of 4 Paws 1 Heart. He just needs to be given a little time after his traumatic experience. Our Bullmastiff rescue friends will network him in the near future to find him a forever loving home. Thank You to the Gibbs for rescuing this sweetheart and to our friend,Mary Brohman, for sending them our way.

Breezy Update

BREEZY UPDATE: This little guy has been through a lot but he has fought through it all. Now look at him — cuddled up with his new foster family. Paws crossed that they decide to give him a furever home. On another note, Breezy will be tested again soon for feline leukemia. We’ll keep everyone informed. ~ diana
